Someone's got their info wrong. That's the old series that was cancelled, right? How would rivals know when nobody else does?
Seems like this popped up a few weeks ago. But this sched. http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/f...rmy_future.htm shows that Army already has 12 opponents for 2012.

So that's two sites that show Army with a full schedule in 2012. Oh well. Jeff Call gets unfollowed on Twitter for not doing his research first.

ESPN contract = BYU vs Penn State 2012-14

I know, its only a rumor, but when Philly newspapers are reporting on it its not just one that was started in a chat room.

the Big 10 is going to a 9 game conference schedule instead of 8. It won't happen until 2017 but if all the big conferences go this way I wonder if it ends up hurting scheduling for an independent BYU. Probably not but the argument is that with only 3 ooc games and a more grueling conference schedule, teams will be more hesitant to schedule quality ooc opponents.

B1G Ten is as stupid as the PAC 12.

Not only will they be hesitant to schedule more quality OOC opponents, they will obviously have fewer OOC games they need to schedule.

This can't be a good thing for independents if all BCS conferences go to this format.

Something else to factor in is the cost. Many BCS teams are insisting on 7-home game schedules. So they will only schedule one "name" program who requires a return game and two patsies who do not require a return game and just take the cash. With conferences that play 9-game league schedules, there will be years where they play 4 home and 5 away conference games; leaving 3 OOC patsies.

What's worse is that many of these programs will schedule more division II teams since they require payouts of 250-400K compared to 800K-1 million plus for larger programs. This doesn't bode well for BYU and they will need help from ESPN. As a fan of college football, I'm turned off by the greed of some of these big-time programs who would rather schedule South Dakota St. instead of an opponent of consequence.

I really don't see how this trend can last. It's a moderate gain from a financial perspective, but it really hurts a conference in a lot of other ways. I think there's a good chance the Big 10 never actually goes through with this once they see how it ends up hurting them in the long run.

And, I suspect the Big 12 will back away from it as well once they split into divisions again. As for the Pac-12? They've never been the type to let a sound, logical decision get in the way of politics.

How do you envision this hurting conferences in the long run if they all go to 9 conference games?

I don't agree with his assessment. I see this as a trend that may very continue and certainly does not bode well for independent teams looking to fill their schedule. That said, I see conference affiliation in BYU's future.

Which conference? Do you base this on information to which you are privy?

First of all, there's no way the SEC will ever do this unless it's mandated by either the BCS or the NCAA - and how would anybody pull off that mandate when at least one of the major conferences, every smaller conference and all of the independents are against it?

But, assuming somehow it did happen, it would mean fewer bowl-eligible teams in the big conferences and less money in the smaller conferences every season.

And, it would create all kinds of divisive controversy over schedule strength that could never be objectively settled. For example, it would only be a matter of time before some Big East lightweight going 12-0 - playing five conference home games and conveniently skipping the two other conference teams that managed nine wins - eased into the championship game against undefeated USC (that didn't have to play ranked Oregon or Washington that year) while the SEC Champ finished with one close loss to Top 15 competition and got relegated into a Sugar Bowl matchup against a mid-major.

Other BCS conferences and no, I have no information just a suspicion based entirely upon my trick knee.

I just think that the recent conference realignment will put some of these schools into bunker mentality and they will be less likely to schedule OOC games, especially on the road and with anyone that is competitive. Just my opinion.
