This whole VEG v. POIN debate reminds me of days gone by when Bishop John McClain would preach about the underrated greatness of the New Mexico Bowl. Come back, Bishop McClain. We miss you.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Back to the Vegas bowl or San Diego. Either one will be awesome. Golf in those area's are superb. I am sure I can get my kids to go if the games are evening games, which they generally are.
I am really starting to think this Independence thing is turning out better than we were told it would.

December in Vegas is generally pretty beautiful from about 7am to 5pm. It's after the sun goes down that the temp really drops. When BYU played OSU in the LV Bowl back in 2009, Shaka and I hit the links at 8am so we could be done in time for BYU's basketball game vs. Nevada. It was mildly chilly for the first hour, and then beautiful for the remainder of the day. The game that night, of course, was insanely windy (and pretty cold, but not even close to as cold as BYU vs. UCLA two years previously).
If the LV Bowl could always be a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on a Saturday, no one would ever complain about the weather.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

We get it. You and Shaka hang out. I assume whoever won didn't have to pay for the Caddymates.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

Funny you mention Caddymates. A few months after golfing with Shaka, I switched firms. One of the first new cases I assigned was defending against a claim for an injury that happened at that exact same course Shaka and I golfed (which did not partner with any of the female caddy services). The Plaintiff was a young woman who was "caddying" a bachelor party golf event and broke her ankle when she was thrown from the golf cart because one of the guys was drunk and spinning donuts on the fairway. As it turned out, she hadn't checked in at the desk to pay as a rider (i.e. she snuck onto the course), and she admitted in her deposition that she was aware that several of the guys in the foursome brought a bunch of alcohol onto the course in their golf bags.Originally posted by Art Vandelay View PostWe get it. She had about 17k in medical bills from the ankle surgery, but ended up settling for a fraction of that.

the siren's song!Originally posted by wapiti View PostVegas vs Poinsettia
Stadium: Vegas. Yes, Sam Boyd is a dump in the middle of no where. But the Q is an awful place to watch a football game. The seats are so far away from the field.
Opponent: Vegas. Vegas gets the MWC champ. Poinsettia gets a MWC also-ran.
Weather: Poinsettia. Been to a lot of Vegas bowls with lousy weather. And the hot chocolate at Sam Boyd sucks.
Things to do: Even. Gamble vs Golf. Yeah, you can golf in Vegas too but the weather could knock that out. This is the most subjective.
Ease of travel: Vegas. More fans can get to Vegas but both are easy to attend for most of the western fan base.
Vegas wins. But I like either game because they are easy for me to attend.Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The problem I have, because of what I want to do, is that a 1:30 game time basically messes up the whole day.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

For a big time bowl that would be fine. The lure of the Vegas or the bowl in San Diego for me is to get away from the crappy weather here and take advantage of it at those places.
Since you live in the good weather or at least OK weather all winter long I see how missing one good day is a non-event.

It's a near certainty. But even if we were left out I would rather play this schedule and go the Fight Hunger Bowl than play a MWC schedule and go to a BCS game. Two other thoughts:Originally posted by Sizzle View PostIf we went undefeated with our schedule this year, would we be in a BCS bowl?
1) Once the playoff is in place the BCS games will be even less meaningful.
2) Getting into the playoff will be more likely as an independent than as a member of the MWC.

We will have to wait to the end of the year to really evaluate that hypothetical and compare BYU against at-large selections, but my guess is that we wouldn't.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostIf we went undefeated with our schedule this year, would we be in a BCS bowl?
If we look at the standings now and include a hypothetically undefeated BYU. Here is how I see the BCS breaking down:
Automatic Bids:
Florida State
Baylor/Texas
Ohio State
Oregon
Alabama
Houston/UCF/Louisville
Fresno State
That leaves 3 at-large bids. Here are teams that I think have a good chance of making it ahead of BYU:
Stanford
Clemson
Miami
Missouri
Auburn
Oklahoma
Michigan St.
BYU would be in the mix. It all depends on how many teams get 2nd losses or not by the end of the season. I definitely think that some of these 1 loss teams would be picked ahead of BYU.
