Perhaps this is all ESPN's doing. I don't know how the ESPN contract would be affected if BYU goes to the Big XII, but it feels to me like something that ESPN wanted to announce now. Here's what I'm thinking. Didn't we trade WashSt for GATech? Now confirming this commitment to BSU for several years. I suspect BYU is retrenching to scheduling in the region because it anticipates that the rigors of Big-12 scheduling will be an obvious drag on athletes' schedules and resources (the map shows we sit way out here away from everybody else). Also, best to secure soon-to-be non-conference games at places within the region to which fans can easily travel because the Big-12 schedule will probably not afford that opportunity to most fans.
But odd timing on the announcement.Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
