Playing in the POIN' in 2012? SoCal stronghold for attendance coupled with national/global TV audience equals some nice returns.

How does all of this work contractually. Have the POIN' or the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl ever hosted a B12 team? This could wind up being a historic move.

...now...I'm no "lip reading expert"....but if you look real closely at Mrs. Pac's mouth, I think I can make out the words: "Creek ster".

What did you ever do to Mrs. Pac Creek?

It will take a good five years before we can start to pass judgement on the independence move. That's an eternity in fan perspective, but hardly a tick of the clock in terms of program management.

Everything that happens in the interim is just a filler. We'll begin to know by 2015 or so how all this is really working out, but not much sooner.

            • This probably isn't news to anyone here...

Boise, Idaho • Boise State will play BYU in an annual football series from 2012-15.

While just about everything is changing in this region, nothing ultimately altered the plans for the Broncos and Cougars to meet four times.

BSU’s three games against Utah (2011-13) were lost in the transition, however, adding some intrigue to Wednesday’s Las Vegas Bowl.

In June, BSU accepted an invitation to move from the Western Athletic Conference to the Mountain West Conference, which then included Utah and BYU. But Utah soon after announced its move to the Pac-10, followed two months later by BYU’s declaring independence in football.

In October, Utah athletic director Chris Hill negotiated a buyout of the nonconference games with BSU, citing the impact of a nine-game league schedule. BSU athletic director Gene Bleymaier said he was “disappointed” to have those games canceled, but added, “Had the situation been reversed, I would have been making the same phone call.”

Shortly after BYU also left the MWC, Bleymaier called Cougar athletic director Tom Holmoe to make sure the 2012-15 contract was still in place. So the teams will meet in Boise in 2012 and ’14 and in Provo in 2013 and ’15.

As of 2012, the Broncos will be playing in a Mountain West that’s missing Utah, BYU and Texas Christian, while having added BSU, Nevada, Fresno State and Hawaii (football only) from the WAC. That’s not the league the Broncos thought they were joining, but is still “a definite improvement,” Bleymaier said. “I really like the 10 football schools that we have right now and would be content to stop it right there.”
"They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Totally agree. I will even retract my statement that these interim bowl tie ins suck. They are probably excellent stepping stones and perhaps I should focus more on the joys of the journey instead of worrying about where the journey ends up.

If anyone asks my opinion, not that anyone will, I will say "this (current scheduling and bowl tie ins) is a nice place to visit on the trip, but certainly not where I want to end up".

Yeah, I don't recall being mad at TCU. But maybe I should have been.

                          • So Rocky Long has his panties in a bunch over BYU leaving the MWC:

“They’re saying they don’t need us, and they’re saying they can do a whole lot better without us, so you don’t make their scheduling easy,” Long said when asked about BYU by a reporter. “They would just as soon keep playing all the same (teams in the Mountain West), so you don’t make their scheduling easy.”

“After five or six years or something, I think they’ll be in a conference,” Long said. “But after five or six years, if they’re still independent, I wouldn’t mind playing them at all. But I don’t want to play them (until then) because I think they treated the league the wrong way.

“There has to be a period of time when we don’t play them, because I don’t like the way they treated the league.”

No worries Rocky, you'll be fortunate to still be coaching SDSU in 5-6 years.

Why would BYU want to play any of these teams anyways? That puts them back on the mtn.

                                No thanks.
