There's a lot that will happen before now and Christmas 2013. Bowl matchups get swapped and traded all the time. I highly doubt that an 11-1 or 10-2 BYU team ends up in the Hunger Bowl playing a 6th place PAC-12 team."It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

It is the Kraft FIGHT Hunger Bowl, not the Hunger Bowl. I don't think it has anything to do with the Hunger Games.Originally posted by kccougar View PostThere's a lot that will happen before now and Christmas 2013. 10-2 BYU played PAC-10 6th place Oregon in the 2006 Vegas Bowl.

That's when we were in the MWC. ESPN now has a vested interest in getting a better matchup for BYU.Originally posted by scottie View Post

Didn't ESPN own the rights to the Vegas Bowl? WOuldn't htey have had a vested interest in arranging a better matchup for that game, too?Originally posted by kccougar View PostThat's when we were in the MWC. ESPN now has a vested interest in getting a better matchup for BYU.
ESPN did, after all, go out and navigate a deal whereby the Vegas would feature Utah vs. Boise.
However, that might have just been a case of ESPN wanting to go out and ink a team that would be able to tear Utah limb from limb in an embarrasment on national TV...
ESPN must hate Utah. Or love Boise.
Wait, they love Boise.
Will they continue to love Boise?
Or will BYU be their new Boise?

Ok.. so here is the answer (I think) to what season the fight hunger bowl is for:

The Hunger Bowl in San Fran? I'm as happy as a little girl.

ESPN has rights to 33 of the 35 bowls played so I don't see them worrying too much about the bowl itself. However, they also have a big contract with BYU moving forward and they will want to have the Cougars as prominant as they can (within reason).
Same thing with the Las Vegas Bowl this year. I'm sure they want good viewership for the bowl game, but they've got 32 others as well. What they don't have in the LV Bowl is an "ESPN" team. MWC vs PAC10. Better for ESPN to get a WAC team (specifically Boise State) into that game.

I really think TH is doing the best he can under the circumstances, really I do.
I don't fault him for next years home schedule. I don't fault him for having a Hunger Bowl the only one interested in us.
I am a member of the dominant faith at BYU and while I think the honor code is esteemed way to high, I do support not playing on the Sabbath and the conservative nature of BYU vs most colleges. If that costs us big bowl games, big conference affiliations, et. al. so be it.
That being said, why do a lot of folks on CB act like this is a really good deal. It sucks. Just because there may be good reason it sucks, it still sucks.

I don't see a whole lot of difference among the bowls outside of the BCS bowls, and as to the few that might be considered the best of the rest, BYU wasn't going to get a sniff anyway within the next couple of years. So I'm fine with the malnutrition bowl or whatever they'll call it in two years. If BYU happens to become BCS-worthy, it's no problem, and if it doesn't it still has a sure place to play in an area with a large BYU following. My son will consume lots of Mac n' Cheese over the holidays as a sign of support.

Exactly. I am so excited about this Bay Area tie-in that I decided to announce a huge pre-bowl game party at PAC's house! All in favor?Originally posted by PaloAltoCougar View PostI don't see a whole lot of difference among the bowls outside of the BCS bowls, and as to the few that might be considered the best of the rest, BYU wasn't going to get a sniff anyway within the next couple of years. You raw, raw attitude guys are full of it. This sucks. I can see it for a couple of years, but going independent I thought was to enhance our status not keep us status quo, unless of course we are leaving for the money and not an enhanced program.Originally posted by creekster View PostExactly.
