Earlier in the thread, there was some discussion about BYU filling the OSU scheduling void left by Vanderbilt cancelling their game next year. I posted the story because it's the first I heard that (1) SDSU filled the spot, and (2) OSU and BYU engaged in discussions about BYU possibly filling that spot.

The OSU/Oregon information in the article was periphery for my purposes.

    • I don't want to play OSU. Basically because I don't think they'd ever come to Provo as part of that.

      • Apparently BYU and OSU were discussing a single game in the hole that opened up in OSU's schedule, but it fell through because BYU would have had to change the date of the Utah game but Utah didn't have the flexibility to move the BYU game up by a week.

If true, we passed on OSU for Utah?!

Would you rather have a home game against Utah or a one and done at Ohio State?

With the way it's been going we'd probably lose both.

Could you really deal with the angst that would result from cancelling a home game for a single road game at Ohio State?

Particularly since it is no longer a rivalry game and now it is just a game of convenience.

                    Put another way:

Would you rather play a game against a team from the bottom of the PAC12 as a home and home or a game against one of the elites of college football, even if it ends up being a one and done?

                    No brainer.

That's why Oregon got the game in Eugene first.

Exactly. If this had happened prior to the UofU bolting to the PAC-12, then my answer would have been different. If the UofU kept us scheduled in Nov every year, then my answer would be different. Hell, if the UofU could manage to schedule us every year regardless of when, my answer would be different.

                        • Good points. I would probably rather play Ohio State than Utah, since Utah's shown very little willingness to keep the game.

NMSU releasing their schedule, looks like BYU might have 7 home games next year with the @Hawaii rule. I wonder if it's another H-H with NMSU, a 2-1 would only make sense to me if I was BYU.

                            • Not surprising.

Another home game would be nice. It's good to actually have some games we'll win next year, in any case.
