Yeah, I missed what happened to Mendenhall. He went out of the game and I remember a brief report but can't remember what they said.

    • I would have loved to see some of Quezada running the ball.

lacerations in his head, he had to have stitches

I may be small, but I'm slow.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, "The United States of America ", for an amount of "up to and including my life - it's an honor."

How'd that happen? I don't recall him losing his hat. JJ did though.

          • How about Eathyn Manumaleuna? (yes, I had to look up the spelling) Last game before his mission he wins the game against UCLA with the miraculous block. First game back off his mission, he wins the game by batting down Locker's last pass on fourth down. What a stud.

I can see why the coaches are having a tough time with the QB decision. But that second to last series they should have played Nelson. We needed his running to take some time off the clock. Heaps had great potential, but he looked like a freshman at times.

Way too many dropped passes, even if you account for the bullets from Heaps. But that should be fixable.

Awesome job by the defense to hold them scoreless in the second half.

            • not that anyone cares, but here are the few thoughts I had about the game.

Riley Nelson: He's a baller, a gutsy guy, floated quite a few throws, but he threw well enough to win. He adds a dimension with his running game that is tough, especially with the option. He moved the team well and finished long drives with points.

JJ Di Luigi: I'm glad to see him improve and be a main contributor, granted he was playing behind Unga for most of his career, but he ran hard and played well. I think most of his success running came from the option plays. It seems that Washington wasn't really ready to defend that and so we took advantage of it.

Heaps: For an 18 year old kid he played very well. He moved the ball well and threw some beautiful passes. Most of the drops (Come on Ashworth!) came from Heaps' passes and I think it's because he hasn't learned to take some off it. Like Beck as a young qb, he's trying to hard to get the ball there in a hurry and so it makes it difficult to catch. He also did have some really poorly thrown balls that I think we can chalk up to jitters. All in all, this kid is something special, and even though he didn't throw any TD passes, he's going to be a hella good qb and I'm excited to see him play again soon.

On the 2 QB system. I don't think either of them proved that one was better than the other. I think Bronco and co. could name either or and still be successful, running it like it is, they have very similar results from both QBs and it is somewhat difficult to defend because completely different plays are called for each QB. I think the experiment is a success thus far. We'll see how it goes from week to week. I think this start bodes well. There was never a moment when I felt "Oh no! (insert QB name here) is on the field again, why did they put him in for this crucial moment?"

Knock it off. This board has enough problems without a dose of middle-age lechery.

That said, I think BYU converted every short yardage situation they had tonight.

Ok, not to be too much of a downer, but that was more Locker than Eathyn. From what I saw, the pass actually his Eathyn's chest. It was that bad.

he still anticipated it, jumped and went after it.

Really? I was at LES so I just saw the replay once on the stadium big screen. I thought he batted it down.

                      Either way, good for him.

He definitely took a big swipe at it with his left arm. But it actually hit off his right shoulder pad. And I agree. good for him. I'm just really enjoying how awful Jake Locker was, after that telecast.

One of the comments from poster on a UW board said now that the Heisman nonsense is laid to rest we can focus on realistic goals like being bowl eligible. Also, many of those guys were impressed with Heaps and commented that they hope Nick Montana is half as good.

I dont think altitude had anything to do with it. I did some research on this a few years ago and, at least, convinced myself. They simply aren't high enough for it to matter. It is much more likely the lack of humidity bothered them much more than the altitude. If we wore them down it wasn't because of the altitude.

                            • I think the 2 QB system actually helped in the 2d half. It seemed to em with Heaps on the field they ran quite a few draws when the UW DL was clearly not playing the run. But what do I know? I thought Heaps was the left handed one before tonight. How embarrassing.

Another benefit, especially for a true freshman like Heaps, is the ability to watch the opposing D ever other series.
