The cope of Utah fans is a site to behold right now. The smooth brain thinking that the 9 points left on the field is hilarious. As if Kyle did go for the field goals that the game would have played put exactly the same play by play. Childish thinking. Also, wasn't the 4th and 7 play the result of Kalani calling a time out and the Utah kicker missing it the reason Kyle decided to go for it? Complaining about the penalty disparity and favoritism as if they didn't witness the calls on the last Utah TD drive is also great. The problem is this line of thinking is being propped up by a lot of these national cfb personalities and podcasters. Oh well. Four is coming.

Utah fans pointing to the officiating or a handful of in-game decisions as the reasons they lost is great. They have fully transformed into BYU fans circa 2015. There was always some reason why we couldn't get over the hump...fans couldn't bear to admit that Utah had surpassed us and was just better at college football and had some built-in advantages going forward that were scary. In the most reality-averse corners of Utah fans I see the same tendencies and I welcome it. This kind of attitude will only delay the necessary jettisoning of a formerly successful dinosaur coach who won't adapt to the new order. We have already seen several long-tenured dinosaur coaches fired this year. Hopefully Utah takes another 2 years to figure it out.

I was also the least nervous for the rivalry game than I have been in years. I almost expected to win. I know our players expected to win. Utah fans who are honest with themselves know that they hoped to reverse the trend that promises to strip their decade of dominance away, but they were nervous as hell that their team wouldn't get it done. As the losing streak grows that fear of slipping behind will weigh on the program and players more. We have seen this story before.

On the officiating: I thought the two PI calls on Utah's last scoring drive were extremely weak. Both made by the same FJ. But I can live with them I suppose. Utah got a gift when Chase Roberts was pulled down to prevent what would have been a sure touchdown in the first half. Lastly, I'm glad the officials dinged Utah twice on that bush league snap count simulation Kyle loves to teach his DL. That's not considered smart anymore, it's cheating and stupid. Now let's get the officials to make Utah DBs play defense without grabbing two fistfuls of jersey every route.

I remember watching the 2019 game in LES wondering what it would take to make up the obvious gap in speed, physicality and athleticism. Well, it happened!

Our D lines performance on Saturday surprised me. They weren’t perfect, but they were disruptive against a stout o line.

I get the admonition by Kalani to take the higher road. To treat Utah fans with compassion and not kick them when they are down. I know it's the Christlike thing to do. And I'll go to church today and be humble towards the Utah fans there. But I have zero feelings of compassion towards Whittingham when it comes to this game. His level of pettiness and the derision he holds on to about the rivalry makes 3 in a row so enjoyable.

It was bound to happen sometime. I knew that eventually whenever BYU landed in a conference, and with the right coaching staff, that this time would probably come. I hope that Utah continues to invest in ways to stay competitive. This rivalry is way more fun when it is competitive.

I am sorry Shaka, but the laws of football game hindsight are clear: If you (A) won the statistical comparison battle, and (B) lost by less than the hypothetical sum of field goals not taken, then the rules follow that Utah actually hypothetically won this game.

In other words, even though BYU ACTUALLY won this game, they HYPOTHETICALLY lost it. Just take the hypothetical "L" and move on, bro.

I don't mind going for it that much (I would have taken 3 pts), but the play call was stupid. All we need to end the game was a first down. Just throw something short over the middle.

I have issues with the play call but not the decision to go for it instead of kicking. At +10 or +13, Utah still had to score two TDs to beat us in regulation. A FG block is low probability but non-zero. And when blocks happen runbacks can happen. Maybe I'm too scared but I liked the thought of Utah having to go the length of the field, recover an onside kick, and then get to FG range and execute a FG to extend the game in the time remaining and avoiding the slim chance of making that task a lot easier through a mistake on the FG try.

Now, that line of thinking assumed Utah wouldn't go 77 yards in 81 seconds for a TD.
