But once you are behind that doesn't make as much sense. It wasn't until they got behind and were forced to throw that their offense started to look balanced. I think a huge part of their offense looking better in the 4th quarter is that our defense, who spent most of the game on the field as a result of TO's was starting to get gassed.
Regardless the play calling was horrible. No delays, draws, or screens (until the 3rd down at the end of the game). Shoot they never ran play action until the series where Burton got toasted. Lewis is the playmaker so they need to find ways to get the ball into his hands besides just handing it to him. Pitt had momentum and had Utah on their heels. On the road you need to play to win. Wanny is a pretty mediocre coach.

He just got smoked nothing more to it.

Wynn loves to throw off his back foot and is not good under pressure. When he has time he can pick you apart. Utah needs to completely eliminate the option with him in the game it is hard to watch.

I thought it was an ugly game but thats to be expected during week 1. I loved Whits 2nd timeout call absolutely boneheaded coaching blunder.

Sealver Siliga is effing good, damn is he good.
I am not going to make an excuse for that play. I don't know what happened on that play. Burton may have bit on the double move. I forgot to record it and watched it live. It was his only bad play against possibly a top 20 pick in next years draft. Burton had him man up for 90% of the game and when he did, he shut him down.

Siliga is damn good. Utah's D line is damn good and they are deep.

this was my concern last night as well. chapman looked a little lost and delayed out there. he is young, though.

this is a typical whit defense. lots of pressure up front and good play by the secondary that is made more impressive because the D-line and LB's stop the run game and put pressure on the QB to take the timing away from the offense. given that defensive theory of kwhit, i think the ute defense played very well last night and they played within their scheme.

burton did a good job except for the one play he got burned. utes still won the game, have time to work on defensive skills, so i think the utes defense will be in great shape by the time end of oct/nov gets here and the utes play ND, TCU AFA and BYU (don't know the order off the top of my head).

        • I can't wait until Saturday night when we can start talking about how BYU's win/loss is worse than it seems.

Chapman was suspect last night. He got beat to many times. I think Black will get more reps this week in practice.

I wonder what is going to happen with Shaky Smithson. My gut tells me he will be back next week, so I hope he has shaken off the rest of the rust by then.

I hope he isn't taking DeVonte's reps. I am sure he will be back but DeVonte was awesome last night. I don't think Shaky has that impact if he stays in the game. Everything I heard was that DeVonte was the best athlete of the wideouts. Everyone also said that he needed to accept that he was wideout and not a q.b. and he would be awesome. Hopefully after last nights performance he has accepted it.

absolutely right. i was torn when he was switched, i mean after all the kid was a high school QB and state player of the year. It's incredible what KWhit does with high school QB's... Blechen, Krueger, chad manis, devonte.

i hope shaky is used like he was last year and that devonte becomes the next david reed.

I agree. I love Shaky, but Christopher looked special last night.

Maybe once he accepts that he is a WR and not a QB, we can build a nice set of Wildcat plays for him to run. DeVonte was great last night.

Ummmm yeah. He is a very good), he would maybe (and I stress maybe) be the 3rd best back in the P10 this year. Just an FYI for the future conf member, the guys better than him will all still be here next year. Hope that doesn't hurt your conf championship run in the first year.
