I don't think it is a coincidence that Wynn was less effective when they started putting additional pressure on him.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostMy take away is that we have a lot of work to do, but beat what I think will be a very good team this year. We came up big when it mattered in spite of mistakes. I would be curious to know what Wynn did to his hand. It didn't look like much but he wasn't the same after. I would like to see him be more decisive. Fortunately we have UNLV to get well against next week.
Your line is good. Pitt did not come prepared and had a lot of chances to win and didn't. Missed FG, the INT, too many trips inside the 20 only coming away with FGs. To Utahs credit, they made plays when they needed to and got the win, especially in OT.

No question the pressure was a problem, but that line led the nation in sacks last year (I think) and had none tonight. Wynn also tossed a TD pass on one of those "bring the house" dial ups on D. I think all in all he was very good tonight. The only play I would like to have back is that pick in the end zone. But the game wasn't close because of anything Wynn did or didn't do. Still, plenty to work on.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostI don't think it is a coincidence that Wynn was less effective when they started putting additional pressure on him.

I think a few of those screen passes he missed could have gone for big yards and kept the momentum from swinging in the 4th quarter. He didn't do terrible by any stretch, but not all that great either.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostNo question the pressure was a problem, but that line led the nation in sacks last year (I think) and had none tonight. Congrats to the Utes. YOur personnel was superior to Pittsburghs and your front seven looked stout. The execution left a lot to be desired. Wynn's troubles did seem to be related to being pressured and that was surprising. I think it would have helped him to use Asiata and Wide more.
I am afraid of Devonte Christopher. And we better use a nickel package against ya'll this year. It's amazing how a linebacker does not cover the slot receiver well.

Jerome Brooks will be a nightmare match-up for everyone we play this year. As Drum was saying to me, it is nice to see Christopher coming into his own. That is a kid that came within a whisker of transferring. I also agree that more Asiata and Wide earlier would have been better. 36 pass attempts in a game where the other team has the ball for 35 minutes is a lot.Originally posted by New Mexican Disaster View PostCongrats to the Utes. Christopher and Brooks look good. I am scared for those crossing patterns with one of our LBs chasing them.
Utah will be a pretty good team come November. That I am sure of. Pitt needs to fire Wannstedt. Horrible play calling all night. I don't think they ran play action until their last TD drive. Their QB sucks. And their front 7 was not impressive. Their front 4 got no push aside from the blitzes they called."Nobody listens to Turtle."-Turtlesigpic

I am excited to see this team in a few weeks against Iowa State on the road. Not a great team, but it will be nice to compare the performance and execution tonight with that game.
Devonte Christopher is a stud. Can't wait for Shakey to get back - I love that guy!

He did hit a wide open receiver on the TD and Christopher did a good job turning a 3-yard throw into a 60-yard TD.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostNo question the pressure was a problem, but that line led the nation in sacks last year (I think) and had none tonight. Wynn missed a lot of passes, including screens designed to get the ball off quickly, and outside of the throw to Christopher in the 2nd half was largely ineffective. Pressure is about more than just sacks. How many times did Wynn have to throw the ball away/over or under throw a receiver because he felt the heat?

Its funny but it seems like every year we come out making a lot of mistake and that it really tightens up by the end of the year. And then the reset button gets pushed in the off season and we are back to lots of mistake the next year.Originally posted by Surfah View PostChristopher and Brooks look good. Well, maybe they can get Cain ready for UNLV.Originally posted by Sizzle View PostHe did hit a wide open receiver on the TD and Christopher did a good job turning a 3-yard throw into a 60-yard TD.

That's the effect of good coaching and turnover in a mid tier program.Originally posted by UtahDan View PostIts funny but it seems like every year we come out making a lot of mistake and that it really tightens up by the end of the year.
