Impressions of game day in Tuscaloosa:
      • Morning game so the tailgate scene isn’t quite as robust as I would have expected. But plenty of mimosas and other liquor flowing.
      • All the sorority girls and fraternity guys wear the same “uniform”. For the girls it’s a skimpy sundress with cowboy boots and plenty of makeup. For the frat boys it’s a blazer and red tie but the red tie changes depending on the frat.
      • People sat “Yes, Ma’am” and “Yes, Sir” at lot more here than in Utah.
      • Campus is pretty. I love the brick and all the historic buildings. University of Alabama was founded in 1820 - not the oldest university in the country but still pretty old.
      • I walked over to where governor Wallace famously stood in the schoolhouse door to block integration. There is a plaque on the wall and a memorial to the first four black students.

The Bama band is huge but Cosmo is a better mascot than the elephant. Cosmo has got to be one of the best mascots in all of sports, IMHO. Bryant-Denny is bigger than Lavell Edward’s stadium but LES has better video boards. Also the ROC is definitely more cohesive and coordinated than the Bama version and BYU fans kick butt singing the national anthem and fight song compared to Bama fans. The 4 F-35 flyover for just a preseason game was very cool.

Hey! I’m going to be in Tuscaloosa tomorrow. Should have gone a day earlier.

Looks like fun. I’ll have to experience a football game in the south someday. We’ll see if life ever takes me there.

I went to the game at Ole Miss when we played there. The pre game tailgail was epic.

Served in Birmingham Bama mission.. Was in Northern Bama but did go to the Stadium one time when there was a massive tornado that tore through and all missionaries join in the cleanup.

It is very cool. Hoover Ward. Never served there but familiar.

I'm going to be upset when 0-2 ND is ranked tomorrow and 2-0 BYU isn't. I know, we haven't played anybody, but, hey--Stanford won tonight! And BYU didn't lose a game because of an inability to make an XP.

Big Noon kickoff going to SLC this week. I hope Portnoy goes to The Pie and gives that place the 3.8 review we all know it deserves.
