  • The Holy War Returns - BYU vs. Utah 2024

No point waiting around to start this thread.

BYU is having a dream season and Utah is having a nightmare season. This will be - perhaps literally - Utah's bowl game. Will they pull it together and make something happen for the rivalry game? Or are they broken beyond repair?

    Can't wait to find out.

It has been 1,886 days since BYU lost to Utah in football. Let's keep it going.

        Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Stoopid Utah. I hope we beat them by all of the points.

This is absolutely Utah's bowl game. The chance of them winning 2 of the next 4 games is miniscule. 3 ranked teams and UCF, who may be fighting for eligibility themselves.

Last time my Ute BIL texted me about football was during the second half of the BYU/Baylor game. Utah's first loss to Arizona was later that night.

As I sat in Lavell's house the last time these two teams played I thought what a magnificent legacy Lavell Edwards has. Both of the programs on that field that night have been so heavily influenced for good by Lavell's legacy. What a gift to this region to have two good programs playing legitimate national level football. The state of Utah appreciates good football and the two major institutions are committed to good football. BYU went through some bumps after that game and Utah is having a poor season but my instincts is the next few years will support the assertion that both programs are well run and will be nationally competitive.

I believe BYU is the better team this year but Utah is capable of winning if BYU helps them. I don't expect that to happen and Lavell, peace be upon him, will smile fondly at the results.

My buddy and I are on the lookout for tickets at a decent price. We used to buy Utah season tickets and sell off the other games, usually going to the BYU/Utah game for free. We gave them up with the scheduling hiatus. I'm thinking we would have taken a loss on that investment this year.

I am looking as well and have been watching all season. Lowest prices on the secondary market sites are holding at around $250/seat before fees. That is a slight dip from the $350 it was before back to back losses to TCU and Houston. I was hoping Ute fan despair would lead to a flood of tickets on the market. I think there are more tickets popping up but prices are being propped up a bit by exuberant BYU fans who want to be there. I think there is still a chance the prices tank a bit more next week, but it will be 2-3 days prior to the game if it happens if the inventory grows and sellers start to panic.

I really want to go. I went to every Holy War football game since 1998 with the exception of 2009, 2010, and the Las Vegas Bowl. My only guaranteed fall football trip when we lived in NYC was coming back to Utah for the rivalry game and golf with college buddies. I really love going to games are RES in blue. It's a blast. I know last time I saw a Cougar win there was Beck to Harline, but you gotta crawl through 500 yards of sewage to fully appreciate a Shawshank moment like that. Same goes with the 2021 win that broke the streak.

Utah is absolutely 100% broken this year. BYU wins easily. I won't be watching.

I started off the two weeks leading up to the Holy War by watching the 2021 game today. Good stuff!
