Keep thinking that.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostNevada is a gimme for the same reason AFA is, the way to beat their option attack is with solid assignment sound football which also happens to be BYU's defensive philosophy and biggest strength.
AFA seems to be able to hang a lot better with TCU and Utah because their defenses that rely a lot more on athleticism and making plays aren't suited as well for an option attack."Take it to the Bank"

Nevada option <> AF option. Nevada's offense is far more robust and AFA though they are a run first team.Originally posted by Hsaru View PostNevada is a gimme for the same reason AFA is, the way to beat their option attack is with solid assignment sound football which also happens to be BYU's defensive philosophy and biggest strength.

I will say this for Bronco's "culture": the culture in Provo right now wins close games ... all of them. That's a unique thing. I believe it is based in the fanatical effort and discipline required by the culture but I also think it is part of the mind-set he is establishing. It is tough to win the close ones consistently and he seems to be winning all of them.

Why people shouldn't be scared of Nevada, click on the white link at the top, espn's recaps make for weird links:

They bring back 10/11 starters on O, including QB, receivers and RB. We have brand new QB, RB and TEs.Originally posted by Maximus View PostI dont get how we are so negative for UW. The advantage that UW has is on offense, most of their D is new, and their D sucked last year. Our D is improved from all indications.
I'm hoping our D negates their O a bit, and their soft D allows our O some breathing room, but in the end I'm just worried about our inexperience at key offensive positions and at LBer against Locker. So Russell...what do you love about music? To begin with, everything.

I would have done exactly what Bronco did. You just can't start the season with a true freshman QB, especially when you have some tough games at the beginning of the year. If you start him from the beginning and things go badly -- which they likely will -- then you run the risk of damaging his confidence. But you also don't want to name Nelson the outright starter, because that will just create a QB controversy and could also damage his confidence. He's going to be here for years. There's no need to rush him into a situation that he's not ready for."The mind is not a boomerang. If you throw it too far it will not come back." ~ Tom McGuane

I think they have won their last 10 games in which the outcome was decided by less than a touchdown. :swear: That does speak well of the coaching.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostI will say this for Bronco's "culture": the culture in Provo right now wins close games ... all of them. It speaks well of the coaching to a degree. Some of those wins were against very good teams (Utah 2009, OU 2009, TCU 2007). Others were against atrocious teams (UNM 2009, Washington 2008). When such a streak is against a good mix of great, good and bad teams, it's a certainty that it will "even out."Originally posted by LA Ute View PostI think they have won their last 10 games in which the outcome was decided by less than a touchdown. :swear: That does speak well of the coaching.
That Wyoming has the second-longest such streak in the MWC at nine games, however, lessens the impact of good coaching. That streak goes back to Joe Glenn, and look what that got him. Sometimes, you just ride a streak of good fortune.

I will say this about BYU's coaching and close games: I would have preferred that its losses had been closer. In its losses, the team fell apart once it fell behind. The difference between the loser in the 2008 and 2009 versions of the rivalry game is stark. BYU fell apart once Utah started pulling away. Utah kept fighting and took BYU all the way to overtime.τὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν
