I watched the Kansas-Nevada game yesterday, trying to get a feel for Kansas. They run spread option concepts on offense and their QB (Daniels) is a very capable rusher but smaller and quicker than Jefferson for Arkansas. He is also an accurate passer throwing to tall receivers with lots of range. Their primary running back is also quite good.

On defense, they attack. They forced 5 fumbles against Nevada (though didn't recover any of them). I don't remember much else about their defense.

I expect the BYU defense to struggle against the quick-hitting Kansas offense. Not sure what to expect from the offense nor how they will match up against the Jayhawk defense.

The surprise of the season so far (our much improved DL) gives me hope we can slow down their rushing attack. Kansas has some good runners including Daniels and they rack up the yards but the rushing defenses they have faced so far are abysmal. I think we can slow the rushing attack and get sime pressure on daniels and it will may down to our corners not giving up yards to their tall receivers.

When BYU is on offense I have no idea what to predict.

Late hit on that incomplete pass not called. Cheap shot. High hit on the fumble that is usually called targeting these days. Announcers are being intentionally blind. He hit the helmet first.

Edit: in the end I'm fine with neither being called as long as they are consistent and we don't lose a player on a BS targeting call later in the game.

Yeah they took Kingston's helmet and he's being evaluated. Care to revise your glowing praise about how the hit stayed away from his head, Mr announcers?

Nice drive, Cougs! Way to work down the field.

I came on to see what others thought, because I am A) very biased, and B) Far from a rules expert, but it looked like a play that is generally called targeting to me.

I was surprised there wasn’t even a review much less a flag.

Commenters doubling down on the "didn't hit him in the head" stance. Sure looked like a head shot to me.

Nice play there all around, and LJ seems to have a really good feel/sense.

Truly the most annoying thing about announcers (apart from generally not knowing the rules) is their refusal to change their mind when replay shows their initial call was wrong. It's ok to say something like "oh on second thought looks like he hit the helmet first. It looked good in real time but the replay appears to show different." It's not that hard to do but almost no one does it.
