The ACC, PAC12 and BIG10 (the "Alliance") all voted in February 2022 against playoff expansion. The vote was 8 for and 3 against out of all 10 FBS conferences plus Notre Dame, but it had to be unanimous.

What happened next? The PAC12 imploded this year (so much for that alliance) and the ACC and FSU got screwed this year. Karma always comes a-knockin'.

    • Looking forward to the Utah/UCF style national championship that Florida state and Liberty will claim if they win their bowl game!

      • They should have done the unpopular thing and left the SEC out. Florida state should have been in but I have a hard time feeling bad for them.

        • How come nobody is outraged about liberty being left out of the CFP? They earned it!

I actually agree with this, but sincerely.

            • Here's the Simulated BCS Top Ten:

              1 Michigan
              2 Washington
              3 Alabama
              4 Florida St
              5 Texas
              6 Georgia
              7 Ohio St
              8 Oregon
              9 Penn St
              10 Missouri

              Personally, my top ten:

              1 Washington
              2 Michigan
              3 Florida St
              4 Texas
              5 Georgia
              6 Alabama
              7 Ohio St
              8 Oregon
              9 Penn St
              10 Missouri

Florida St got so screwed. But like another poster mentioned, they helped create this system, which was intended to keep "little" programs out, so I'm not crying too bad for them.

Now when we get to the expanded playoffs, there is still always going to be someone who feels left out. But, I think the 12 teams should be good enough for the foreseeble future. If the expanded format were being used this year, this is how it would look with the actual current College Football Playoff Rankings:

              Seeds with byes

              1 Michigan (Conf Champ)
              2 Washington (Conf Champ)
              3 Texas (Conf Champ)
              4 Alabama (Conf Champ)

              Remaining Seeds

              5 Florida St (Conf Champ)
              6 Georgia (At Large)
              7 Ohio St (At Large)
              8 Oregon (At Large)
              9 Missouri (At Large)
              10 Penn St (At Large)
              11 Ole Miss (At Large)
              12 Liberty (Conf Champ)

              First Two Out

              Oklahoma
              LSU

              First Round Games

12 Liberty at 5 Florida St
11 Ole Miss at 6 Georgia (maybe this gets changed so conf mates aren't playing in the first round)
10 Penn St at 7 Ohio St (maybe this gets changed so conf mates aren't playing in the first round)
              9 Missouri at 8 Oregon

              Quarterfinal games
              9-8 winner vs 1 Michigan
              10-7 winner vs 2 Washington
              11-6 winner vs 3 Texas
              12-5 winner vs 4 Alabama

Nah, let's just go back to the AP poll deciding the champion. Who needs a useless playoff?!

This would have been a good year for the BCS. There is a clear #1 and #2. The only other team that can make an argument didn't even make the top four this year.

Heck, this would have been a good year for the Bowl Alliance. Rose Bowl gets the PAC and Big 10 champs, who happen to be #1 and #2.

Oh really? Who are the clear #1 and #2 teams?

FTR: Vegas has Bama by 2.5 and Texas by 4.

                          • I'm not looking forward to the Bronco fan boi portion of the BYU fan base devoting so much attention to the New Mexico football program. BYU Twitter is already saturated with it.

                            • Wait wat. Is Bronco coaching NM now?

                              Edit: Yes he is.
