My favorite thing about independence, and perhaps the best evidence of its benefits, is that Ute fans (for the life of me, I can't figure out why they care...) universally think its such a bad idea.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Which leaves BYU with little wiggle room to move up the polls Oct. and Nov. I'm starting to like the idea of a September Holy War more and more.

You seem to have forgotten - teams with a BCS conference affiliation don't have to worry about beating BYU in order to get into a BCS game. They have to worry about winning their conference.

I suppose if there is a team that thinks it might be top 14 but figures to lose the conference championship - those teams would not want a challenge. Or I suppose if a team figured it was going to win their conference and didn't want a team like BYU to keep them from getting into the BCS Championship Game, that could cause them to not want to play BYU.

But let's be realistic here. How many BCS teams are there that think they are good enough to win their conference and think they deserve a shot at the championship and are afraid of playing BYU? I'm going to go with "not many". Though I will submit that there may be some who would like a more cupcake schedule outside of conference. However - the moment they do that they also potentially give up any shot at the championship if a team with a tougher OOC schedule has a similar record.

And all of this goes without saying the fact that BYU's record for beating good teams is probably no better than their reputation for getting ranked and then losing to good teams - giving a champion wannabe a leg up in the BCS rankings.

I personally think that it is an AWESOME idea!

Not to mention they will have a conference championship game to prepare for and thus would want a bye week.

I know Dr. Hill is smart enough to recognize this as well.
lol, as we all know the SEC, Big 12 and ACC have made it a habit to schedule byes the week before the SEC championship game. Too bad 11 of the 12 SEC teams didn't succumb to this habit last year (however SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt was the lone SEC team that did listen to your sage scheduling advice).

Here's a sampling of games that will be taking place on November 27, 2010:

                  Georgia vs. Georgia Tech

                  USC vs. Notre Dame

                  Florida vs. Florida State

Why the hell are these teams doing this?
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

No, seriously, you guys need to keep coming up with ideas like this one. Keep 'em coming.

Umm - nope. Ga Tech played GA during Rivalry Week, the week before the ACC Chapionship. And Clemson Played SC.

Alabama played Auburn during Rivalry Week, the week before the SEC Championship . Florida played Florida State the same week.

Texas played A&M during Rivalry Week - the week before the Big 12 Championship game. Nebraska played Colorado that same week.

                              • So I don't know enough about this stuff, but wouldn't a perfect slot for ND-BYU be championship week? Seems like ND would bite for that. Maybe you'd have issues with coverage. Maybe ESPN Thursday night before?
