    Do all teams that participate in the Pac-10 get a chance to buy Rose bowl tickets? I never knew that.

    Also when BYU goes independent they will no longer be Non-BCS. Unlike Utah we do not need to ride on other teams coattails to be successful.

      I didn't know there was a tier lower than that?

        The difference is that Utah leaving the conference directly affected us.

        This doesn't affect you. You've moved on to bigger and better things, where it would take "a lot of money" to get you to even play us, a lowly non-BCS school. Remember?
        At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

          As a TCU fan, at least when they play BYU, this does affect me.

            Um, when Utah left the MWC it affected us. Also, at the time there was a lot of discussion around the Big 12/Pac 10/Big 10 expansion that would directly impact BYU and the MWC.

            As it sits right now, this has no direct impact on Utah. There may be an indirect impact on recruiting, but I doubt there is since I'm sure Utah is already going after those 4 and 5 star California recruits.

              How about as a Wyoming fan, at least when they play BYU?

                • So assuming byu goes indy in 2011 (big If I know)

                  Their schedule would be
                  @texas
                  @Oregon St
                  USU
                  San Jose St
                  Hawaii
                  @La Tech
                  @NM st
                  @Idaho
                  @Utah (or at home depending on how the schedules work)
                  some Div II school
                  Open Home
                  Open Home (Possible Away if Utah is a home game)

                  Who do they get? Army and Navy already have full schedules for 2011. ND has 11 games (6 home and 5 away) and it probably way to much money to leave on the table to not play that last game at home.

                    USU keeps wanting a home/home in hoops, maybe we can offer one in football. That'd really give the Beehive Boot a thrill.

                    • Looks like BYU and Texas are closing to signing a home and home to be played sometime after 2011. Who knows how long out that will be.

                      Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

                      • So what is on the schedule for next year?

                        @Texas
                        @Oregon St.
                        USU
                        Hawaii

                        It looked like a report said Boise St and BYU would hook up.

                        Obviously they'll play Utah, and now the flexibility opens up the realistic possibility of playing @ Utah. What other games?

                        Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

                          Wasn't Boise St. already on the schedule? It just looked like it was going to turn into a conference game.

                            Navy and Notre Dame would be receptive to scheduling BYU, I'm sure.

                            • This will be the most interesting thread for me for the foreseeable future. I'm not down on what it does to BB, but if we can put together a great schedule for FB, it could be a great move for the FB program.

                              I think this is not impossible.

                              First 4 games:

                              Texas 1:2 (or other top 10 program)
                              Oregon or equivalent 1:1
                              Cal or equivalent 1:1
                              Texas Tech or equivalent 1:1

                              Second 4 games:

                              Iowa or equivalent 1:1
                              Boise State/TCU 1:1
                              Wyoming/SDSU/UNLV/New Mexico 2:1
                              Eastern Washington/Hawaii home (Hawaii or D1 money game in years you have Hawaii away)

                              Last 4 games:

                              Utah State 2:1
                              Notre Dame
                              Army or Navy
                              Utah
                              (Hawaii away every other year)

                              The key is really getting that last half filled. The first half should be pretty easy. We may have to sacrifice some in the way of offering money or a better than normal split to fill the back half, i.e. home and home with a Wyoming type.

                                I'm not really concerned about the first four games as BYU has been able to get decent games for that section of the schedule for the last 20+ years.

                                If they can pull off a last 4/5 games like you just posted then I would be thrilled.

                                One caveat I would have is that I would play in Hawaii every year to get the 13th game and make having 8 home games a reality. However I would only agree to play the game in October.
