I saw poor gap-minding, overpursuit, and poor tackling. The same players were really good with that last week, so I would say it seems talent isn’t the immediate issue.Originally posted by USUC View Post
How much of this is the talent disparity though?

I blame the game thread title."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

I am generally a fan of Gov Cox, but I think him blasting out a tweet calling out "religious bigotry" at this game is unfortunate. BYU's name is once again embroiled in the national culture war conversation. He is usually good at staying above the culture war stuff. I'm not sure if this is a subconscious reaction to him jumping the gun with the BYU WVB thing. This is par for the course when BYU plays anyone in the western US. Why blow it up now?

Sigh. Crappy game, that really came down to our D line. No penetration. The ducks could release a o-lineman who would take out a linebacker back for a guaranteed 7 yards.
Jaren is legit though. Our O-line needs to get nasty with run blocking. They do a good enough job in pass pro.
Can’t wait to take on the pokes in Provo.Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

I interpreted the referee's poor explanation as a snap infraction. Because niketown apparently can't afford video replay in the stadium for every play, I guessed that the center slowed or stopped the snap and then restarted. Has to be one continuous motion once the ball moves or it is the same as a false start.Originally posted by Joe Public View PostWhat’s the rule with that snapped ball that BYU was about to recover? Why was the play blown dead?

For real. This was always going to he be the hardest game on the schedule. Oregons skill is what we traditionally struggle to defend. I felt like we needed to create turnovers to have a chance to win because they were going to move the ball. Obviously didn't happen until it was too late. I was also hoping Nix would make some of his patented mistakes but we he played a nearly flawless game. Some of that has to do with lack of pressure yes.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostI worry about some of you guys.
I wish we would have performed better on defense. If we had our two WR I think we would have hung in more in spite of all the defensive mistakes. I think Oregon is going to surprise the rest of the season and at the end of the year this will not be seen as a bad loss. The fact we only dropped to #19 shows many already don't see it as a bad loss.

Thanks for clarifying. I don’t remember what the TV replay showed, but it sounds like the refs must have seen what you described and blown the play dead.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View Post

Oregon is always the most challenging when its pride is wounded. It has more talent, particularly at skill positions, than most teams west of Georgia it plays in any given year.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View Post

You could make a case that Oregon horribly underachieves, recruiting in any year as it does as well as the top of the SEC. Pick any year, Oregon recruits 3x more ESPN 300s in a single class than Utah or BYU has in its entire history. It's amazing that Utah has beaten and stayed competitive with Oregon so often.
