I’ll be interested to see what assistants he can pick up.

I don’t know anything about Jay Hill. Is he good?

number one, he's an HC currently - that alone counts for something. just getting a HC to come in as a DC is a pretty big deal. but more importantly he's an HC with a 67-38 record over 8 years at Weber St. 50-19 record in conference. Weber's all time winningest coach. 9-2 this season.

this has to be the most accomplished coordinator hire ever for byu and it may not be close.

... we'll see. I guess I feel about this the way I do about most offseason news, like recruiting. I'll know how big it was once we see the results on the field.

In the meantime, there are two early tests where we can see how effective this hire is. First, we'll see what assistants BYU gets to work under Hill's defense. Poppinga is a good start. Keeping Gilford would be a plus. Can we land any other big names (Nua? Anderson?).

Second, recruiting. We are just weeks away from the early signing period. Can we stave off any more big losses, either from decommits or to the transfer portal? And who can we bring in?

Grimes, I think we can agree, was a darn good hire, and he passed both of these early tests. He brought in a fantastic suite of coaches, including several who would have been good coordinator candidates in their own right. And he brought in some major recruits, not the least of which was Zach Wilson. If Hill can replicate even a modicum of that success, SMR's bold statement could prove true.

he's the most accomplished hire. whether he is ultimately a good hire or not, i agree only time will tell. keeping gilford should be the top priority.

Hunter Clegg to Utah. They are absolutely killing it with head to head BYU recruits. Not pleasing

                            Polys dropping left and right.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock
