I'm not sure AA was serious or not, but I would love it if invites were given to TCU, UNLV, SDSU and New Mexico. The WAC would become a better basketball conference with the inclusion of the last three. UNLV, SDSU, New Mexico and Utah State in the same basketball conference with BYU wouldn't be so bad.Originally posted by scottie View PostAssuming BSU stays put in the WAC, why would any school want to be part of the MWC in 2011?
goes The MTN/MWC.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

And adding those teams means USU doesn't have to win the WAC tourney to get an NCAA bid.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm not sure AA was serious or not, but I would love it if invites were given to TCU, UNLV, SDSU and New Mexico. AND with the conference tourney in Provo/SLC every year. We'll see how the Rebs like that.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm not sure AA was serious or not, but I would love it if invites were given to TCU, UNLV, SDSU and New Mexico. Also...with BSU staying (with or without TCU--who would be crazy not to come), our football schedule is a major upgrade. At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Is the basketball tournament really supposed to be in Provo/SLC every year?Originally posted by ERCougar View PostAND with the conference tourney in Provo/SLC every year. We'll see how the Rebs like that.

I hate how UNLV has home court, but Las Vegas is a great place for a conference basketball tournament.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Who would hire these guys?Originally posted by scottie View PostAssuming BSU stays put in the WAC, why would any school want to be part of the MWC in 2011?
goes The MTN/MWC.

or this gal?

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Will be interesting to see how the four-WAC-opponents thing works out. If it always ends up being Boise (assuming they stay), Fresno, TCU if they join??, and some other team -- major coup by BYU. I can't imagine that but surprises are coming left and right.Originally posted by ERCougar View PostRight, but ESPN is not going to pay us $4M a year to broadcast BYU-La Tech games.

The more I think about this, the more excited I get...
Some wishful thinking for a moment (but not crazy out there thinking)--Let's say BSU stays in the WAC. TCU would be crazy to turn down an invitation and the WAC would be crazy not to extend one. Similar thing with UNLV and SDSU for basketball, but let's just talk football for now. That leaves BYU with 4-6 WAC games, with I'm sure some choice over which teams they'll play. Let's say USU, Hawaii, BSU, and TCU, and maybe one or two others. Play ND conference championship weekend. Start a series with the 3 service academies. One or two BCS teams in September. I'd take that schedule over Utah's (not that that's our comparison
).
No wonder the Utes don't like this.Last edited by ERCougar; 08-18-2010, 04:28 PM.At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

I am serious. Whether they'll ultimately extend an invitation to any of them, or to which of them they will extend invitations, is anybody's guess, but they'd be reckless not to be thinking about it. Either the MWC ends up with the WAC's best schools, or the WAC ends up with the MWC's best schools. Do enough damage to the MWC, and Boise stays. You've got a $5 million dollar wall over which your own constituents must jump in order to bail, while the MWC is left defenseless. Time to roll out the artillery.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostI'm not sure AA was serious or not, but I would love it if invites were given to TCU, UNLV, SDSU and New Mexico. As wisely as BYU has moved thus far (the 5 M exit penalty is pretty ingenious, if you ask me), I don't see any reason to assume that they didn't insist on some choice over the 4 teams they play.Originally posted by scottie View PostWill be interesting to see how the four-WAC-opponents thing works out. There was some rumor posted on here today about this being one of the stipulations BYU insisted on. I don't remember which thread, and it's just a rumor.Originally posted by Color Me Badd Fan View PostIs the basketball tournament really supposed to be in Provo/SLC every year?
