Where are you getting these dollar amounts? You are making me laugh.

Oh yes I got it. I am sure ESPN is chomping at the bit to broadcast BYU football games to all those members in Chile. I hear Chile has a lot of members. I am sure the ratings will be awesome down there. Do you think the truck could make it down there to film them watching BYU vs. La Tech/Tulane/Western Michigan/Utep/Weber St./Portland St/Utah St./Army/Navy/Middle Tennessee St./Troy/Central Florida?

I just want to make a quick point. Nothing has happened today that BYU did not anticipate. Commissioner Thompson did not out-flank BYU. BYU is still a conference member and was not taken by surprise by the Fresno and Nevada invitations. This may turn out to be a bone-headed move on BYU's part, but it won't be because they didn't think this thing through completely. Exposure is what BYU is after. Yes, the extra money is nice, but every move they have made and are yet to make, is driven by exposure and furthering the mission of the school and church. Look how much interest has been generated already, and BYU hasn't even confirmed.

The stuff about the HD Truck kills me.

Yeah this thing is pretty cool:

But isn't ESPN worth around 10 billion dollars? -- seems like use of BYU's HD production truck would be a ridiculously small drop in the bucket for an entity like ESPN.

Will BYU be upset when ESPN asks BYU to roll their truck up to Salt Lake to broadcast the Utah/USC game? I am sure that next to the $2,000,000 per game term there is also a term that says "the HD truck will not be allowed in Salt Lake".

Coming from you this does make me feel a bit better about all of this. Really curious to see what the next few days bring.

No, because we'll just make them pay millions for use of our truck.

This is going to be awesome. I can see it already.
Instead of playing for a measly conference championship or BCS birth, BYU is going to set up a giant board with increasing dollar amounts listed on it. After every game it will fill up with the money earned that day. The fans will cheer as it fills up and the players will swell to overflowing with pride to know how much money they made for their school that day.

Wait... the WCC doesn't look too bad:

no matter how you look at it, the WCC is better than the remaining WAC teams in every single sport. Really.
                          But what about track?

                            Crud.

I was counting on that one year free subscription to Cougar Sportsline.

Could it be possible that BYU is just strengthening its own position in the MWC with all of this? Maybe for a bigger piece of the pie? My gut tells me no and I think it has backfired a little bit. But maybe BYU has every intention to stay in the MWC.

It's not like they'll pay the coaches more. They already have excellent facilities. They've never not recruited a player because it wasn't in the budget. Maybe I'm being naive here, but I see this $$$ play being thrown around as if a fan should care. Just what will the extra money mean for BYU athletics in terms of wins/losses?
                                Exactly.

So this organization that has the coin to buy a $50M HD truck is going to risk its entire athletic program and create anarchy in two conferences so it can draw a few extra million per year.
