And Utes, seriously, give it up. Colorado is not a rival. BYU is your rival and always will be. The left-behind element has only added another chapter to the storied rivalry, and an additional motivating factor for both teams.Comment

They sort of arbitrarily selected Colorado. They insisted that the schools had a long history and a shared border and so forth, but you simply can't generate emotional investment. Fifteen years later, that 'rivalry' still hasn't caught on.
It's like your daughter. Sure, it would be convenient if she would go out with the nice young gentleman next door, but the more you try to convince her of how sensible the pairing is, the less likely there is to be any chemistry there.
Rivalry, like romance, doesn't really lend itself to predetermination.Comment
