Someone needs to update poor Holmoe's Wikipedia entry and say that none of this was his fault because Cal made him coach the team for five years against his wishes and for some reason some crazy professor for no reason at all decided to torch his own career and issue fake grades and credits to the two players (it doesn't say any of that):

Following Mariucci's departure to the NFL, Holmoe assumed duties as head coach of the Golden Bears' football program from 1997. He was, by his own admission, an unsuccessful coach.[1] During his five year tenure at Cal, he compiled a 16-39 record, including a 9-31 record in Pac-10 play and a 1-10 season in 2001, the worst in the Golden Bears' history. Holmoe went 0-5 against archrival Stanford and failed to reach a bowl game as head coach. In addition, the NCAA banned Cal from postseason play in 2002, took away nine scholarships over four years, forced Cal to forfeit its four victories from the 1999 season due to ineligible players, and placed the program on five years of probation due to violations during Holmoe's reign. When Jeff Tedford led the Bears to a 7-5 record in 2002, they were not allowed to play in a bowl game.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

So no links prior to 2000? Just supposed to take your word for it? The word that went from high and mighty to room temp IQ in the span of a few minutes? I'm supposed to just believe you didn't like McBride because of something you claim you said 10 years ago?

      You are fun today.

Miracles never cease, but for once, I agree with Coach. It was not Hill's finest hour as far as composing his thoughts and delivering them in an eloquent manner.

That being said, I do attribute his muddled delivery to this being his actual finest hour.

I'll give him a pass. He got Utah into the PAC. That probably trumps being a bit scatter-brained in his delivery.

How could you NOT like McBride after the decades of coaches that had preceded him?

Utah was Lazarus and McBride was the man that raised the program from the dead.

          Praise to the man!

McBride has a fair amount of support because our standards have been beaten down by almost 40 years of bad to mediocre coaches (Giddings, Meeks, Lovatt, Howard, Fassell, McBride). Still, almost eleven years into McBride's tenure, Wyoming's tradition towers over ours. Even though Wyoming is in Laramie ('nuff said), and has less than 10,000 students, it has to its credit maybe 10 WAC titles, a Sugar Bowl appearance, a hatful of bowls, and always fields a tough team.... It's time for Chris Hill to do something dramatic and risky like the Dawgs did when they hired Rick Newheisl from Colorado (the Huskies, much depleted after 7 years of Lambright, beat a tough Oregon team--and a bitter rival--Saturday night for only the second time in 7 years).
Posting that they should fire the coach for losing to BSU in 1999 is quite a bit different than posting that he should be fired for academic fraud and loss of institutional control.

It's like Captain Kirk destroying some evil robot with circular logic games:

RObot IPU: The BCS is destroying College football.

Captn Kirk: Yes, it is. What conference is Utah in?

RObot IPU: Utah is in the Pac-10+2, and it is a BCS conference

CAPTN kIRK: Thus Utah, with its BCS conpsirators, is destroying college footbal.

RObot IPU's CPU begins to melt down.
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I think bought and sold politicians call that "a refining of their prior stance on the issue."
