If some kind of face-saving concession is thrown their way they might be able to stay. But I'm not sure what that would be, or why the rest of the Big 12 would offer it.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Do we know this? I understood if the conference drops to 9 members they lose their TV contract, but does the conference disband? I didn't know that was the case.Originally posted by Katy Lied View PostWhy would OU waive their rights vs. aTm? Maintain your rights, keep the money from the lawsuit, and then quietly sneak over to the PacXX due to the fact that the Big 12 is no longer. Keep the money and move where you want.
I would think that in a 10 member conference, the first one to bolt is the subject of all the lawsuits. After that, the conference no longer exists and everyone can move with impunity.
To maintain this precarious balance and avoid lawsuits, the Big 12 can admit no new members. If they admit BYU, aTm can leave.
Moreover, getting the money from the lawsuit is not exactly a two or three week proposition. Unlike lawsuits on TV (Man I hate legal shows on TV) real lawsuits of this type take years to conclude, at best.PLesa excuse the tpyos.

Beebe press release...
“This is the first time to my knowledge that a conference has been requested to waive any legal claims toward another conference for any damages suffered with a membership change. The Big 12 Conference was asked by Texas A&M University and the Southeastern Conference to waive any such claim to help facilitate Texas A&M’s departure from the Conference without any consideration to the Big 12. Although they were not obligated to do so, the Big 12 Board of Directors decided to accommodate that request as it relates to The Big 12 Conference, Inc., which is reflected in the September 2 letter sent to SEC commissioner Mike Slive. However, the waiver did not and could not bind the individual member institutions’ governing boards to waive institutional rights. If the departure of Texas A&M results in significant changes in the Big 12 membership, several institutions may be severely affected after counting on revenue streams from contracts that were approved unanimously by our members, including Texas A&M. In some cases, members reasonably relied on such approval to embark on obligations that will cost millions of dollars.”"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

In light of your clarification I withdraw my earlier comments. And this is not a ledge, it is a narrow walkway designed for window-cleaning.Originally posted by TripletDaddy View Postwhat are you talking about? Nobody is talking about Utah fans. Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!
For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

I will help you out here. I don't know what cornholing is, though. (No need to enlighten me, BTW.)Originally posted by statman View PostExclusive Big 12 rights to the word "cornholing" for A&M tailgates?
