Man, it's been a long time since I've heard that version. Maybe I should have gone with the weird dialect way back when I chose the moniker in the first place... of course then it would just be confused with some weird agricultural term.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostShogahen.

I would like to see my Big 8 Conference remain intact, but I don't think it's likely at this point. I see the conference doing some kind of duct-tape patch-up job to hold things together awhile, but nonetheless collapsing in the next five years. I think the conference management really blew it over the last eighteen months.

Four Super Conferences means lawsuits - potentiall crippling lawsuits. Four current BCS teams would have to be eliminated (Vandy? USF? Baylor? TCU? Utah? Colorado? Who would it be?)(assuming ND joins one of the conferences). No one is going to volunteer, and those four teams would immediately join-up and file a lawsuit to stop the realignment from happening. And different form threats of lawsuit from BYU &/or Utah in the past, the spurned four would have DIRECT DAMAGES that they could point to in their lawsuits.Originally posted by Moliere View PostWhy do people assume there can only be 4 superconferences? Seems like 5 would work just fine and it's easy to get there by imploding the Big East. Come on Big 12, do what you gotta do!
In addition to the four ex-BCS, BYU and Boise would also be out - two more teasm who have shown over the past decade that they can play with the BCS teams and which can make a solid argument that they deserve part of the $$$ payday.
But if you have the current six BCS leagues reduced to five Super Conference leagues by gobbling-up the Big (L)East, adding BYU and Boise State and ten teams from Conference USA, MWC & WAC, things change considerably. This would give no current BCS team the ability to sue over direct damages. It would also take away the thunder from just about every 'mid-major' that's ever made rumbles against the BCS. Any team that's ever had a real beef with the BCS would be part of the cabal. A lawsuit is MUCH LESS likely in such a situation.
Super Conference realignment will ONLY happen if there are at least five Super Conferences included...

The Big 12 basically did in the last 18 months what the Pac-12 did for nearly two decades - use politics as an excuse to do nothing while everybody else made steady strategic growth.Originally posted by Babs View PostThey are symbiotic.

In the Pac's case, Tom Hansen wasn't willing to upset the apple cart and make enemies in his beloved northwest by forcing expansion through. As a result, the conference got further and further behind until a non-Pac guy, Larry Scott, came in and got the job done.
Dan Beebe made the same mistake. He let the smaller teams run the asylum for the last year and prevent quick expansion back to 12, and unfortunately UT and OU went along with it.
Now they're in such a mess that even a mid-major who has beeng dying for a Big 12 invitation since 1994 is apparently hesitant to join.

Despite the recent or not-so-recent failures of Big 12 management, Nebraska has won just as many national championships in the Big 12 as OU (and Texas). That's the only measure of success that matters.Originally posted by Babs View PostBitter, much?
