It's not about money. TAMU reportedly gets $20M this year from the Big 12. Each team in the SEC currently gets $17M. If TAMU has to come up with $9-10M to get out of the Big 12 then it could be a pretty lean year in the SEC for the aggies.

The enrollments are almost the same size, A&M is a very good school, a wonderful athletic department. So I'll ask again, where is their network? I'm not suprised at all. In fairness, Tuscaloosa is a better comparison (in terms of the town) than Austin. Austin is actually a city. College Station only exists because of the University.

I lived in College Station for several years and attended aTm (as a grad student) for a few of those years. It's a nice place and I have fond feelings for the people and the place, but the little brother complex is live and well.

And it's not just about athletics either. TAMU is a fine academic institution, but you get the feeling that everything it does is with an eye pointed towards Austin.

In-state rivalries almost always involve a little brother (see, e.g., Oklahoma and Oklahoma State), so they seem perennially one-way. The big-brother school has some storied out-of-state rival that gets more of the attention. Sure, Michigan hates Michigan State, but it's Ohio State they're obsessed with.

Why would I have to "consider that Jimmermania was created by ESPN"? I thought you were just showed examples of how that wasn't the case?

Your concern with BYU's future as it relates to ESPN is unfounded and I really thought the others did a very good job of helping you to allay those fears but I guess not.

You mean Jimmer draining threes? Which were highlighted over and over on SportsCenter? Or random celebrities tweeting about Jimmer? Who they saw on SportsCenter over and over?

I'm not trying to downplay what Jimmer did. He made for a great story - which you have to admit ESPN took and really ran with.

I'm saying you can't downplay the effect ESPN had on Jimmermania.
