Stupid Aggies. You know you suffer from little brother syndrome when your primary motivation to move to the SEC is to vacate the shadow of your rival.

It's not about money. TAMU reportedly gets $20M this year from the Big 12. Each team in the SEC currently gets $17M. If TAMU has to come up with $9-10M to get out of the Big 12 then it could be a pretty lean year in the SEC for the aggies.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostStupid Aggies. Norm Hitzger said this on The Ticket radio in dallas about the LHN causing the split up:
"Texas and their own network has been the talk for over three years. What has A&M been doing while UT got this done? The enrollments are almost the same size, A&M is a very good school, a wonderful athletic department. So I'll ask again, where is their network? Why didn't they put something together when we knew UT was?"
"Don't blame Texas for trying to get a second game on the LHN, what do you expect them to do?"
"Did A&M and the other schools get caught with their pants down when UT announced the LHN? I say they did. Texas whipped the other schools butts when they announced this. It is the job of the administration to make more money and Texas did that. This is a big deal, there's a fury, because it surprised everyone and caught them off guard."
"What is A&M claiming of a recent upheavel? What is he talking about? I think the reference is the LHN? Did we not know about that? It is one, maybe two games per year? Is that what this fury is all about?"
"A&M is stunned about the LHN contract."
"This isn't about the LHN, the other schools are stunned with UT's aggressiveness. The Aggie alums should be asking their administratiion why they didn't try and get this done. A&M isn't Baylor or Tech or ISU, tehy're a bigtime school with a lot of money."
"If you're tired of being the little brother, that's fine, go, but don't blame the LHN."
"If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.
"I honestly believe saying someone is a smart lawyer is damning with faint praise. The smartest people become engineers and scientists." -SU.
"Yet I still see wisdom in that which Uncle Ted posts." -creek.

I'm not suprised at all. In fairness, Tuscaloosa is a better comparison (in terms of the town) than Austin. Austin is actually a city. College Station only exists because of the University.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostFunny. I was in Austin last week and didn't see a single thing about aTm.
I lived in College Station for several years and attended aTm (as a grad student) for a few of those years. It's a nice place and I have fond feelings for the people and the place, but the little brother complex is live and well.
And it's not just about athletics either. TAMU is a fine academic institution, but you get the feeling that everything it does is with an eye pointed towards Austin.

It hasn't always been that way, but you're definitely right about the present.Originally posted by Babs View Postlol. I was just thinking the same thing. I've seen an awful lot of upside-down OUs (which look ridiculous, btw), but I rarely hear or see much about aTm.
Rivalries almost always seem one way. TTech hates aTM hates TU hates OU (though the Texas/Oklahoma rivarly is an exception).

There are donors that would have that paid before their second helping of brisket was served. aTm has some very deep pockets.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostIt's not about money. In-state rivalries almost always involve a little brother (see, e.g., Oklahoma and Oklahoma State), so they seem perennially one-way. The big-brother school has some storied out-of-state rival that gets more of the attention. Sure, Michigan hates Michigan State, but it's Ohio State they're obsessed with.Originally posted by TheAzzuri View PostIt hasn't always been that way, but you're definitely right about the present.

You mean Jimmer draining threes? Which were highlighted over and over on SportsCenter? Or random celebrities tweeting about Jimmer? Who they saw on SportsCenter over and over?Originally posted by Blueintheface View Post
Why would I have to "consider that Jimmermania was created by ESPN"? I thought you were just showed examples of how that wasn't the case?
Your concern with BYU's future as it relates to ESPN is unfounded and I really thought the others did a very good job of helping you to allay those fears but I guess not.
I'm not trying to downplay what Jimmer did. He made for a great story - which you have to admit ESPN took and really ran with.
I'm saying you can't downplay the effect ESPN had on Jimmermania. If we disagree on something, it's because you're wrong.
