The Big 12 expansion groundswell

I like the rivalry. We're also in different times. It's B1G/SEC versus the rest. The rest needs to be as strong and profitable as possible. Love them or hate them, the football Utes are reigning 2-time conference champions.

Did you like getting your ass kicked in the rivalry for 9 straight games? Also, if the rivalry survived with Utah having a huge advantage then why would it go away with BYU having an advantage? That makes no sense.

And how does Utah being "as strong and profitable as possible" help BYU's case in the future? It does the exact opposite.

It doesn't seem like Arizona can get away without ASU, but I'm not sure the networks will pony up for ASU at #15. If they won't pay the full share for ASU, they won't do it for Utah. So they're left with either Utah at #14 or UConn. Then there's the dark horse, Oregon, which may not actually get an invite from the Big 10. I don't think the Big 10 takes more than two and I think one definitely goes to Washington, the other could go to Stanford.

I am thinking back and I honestly don't remember a single ute fan ever saying something like, "I wish the P12 would add BYU". Never. Not once. Not even the nice Utah fans. And especially not the Utah coaches or administrators. It is because they had a massive institutional advantage and it would be dumb to extend that to their rival. So why on earth are there so many BYU fans lobbying for Utah in the B12? I don't get it.

I like the rivalry in all sports. Plus, having it as a conference game is a plus.

I shouldn't have to spell this out for you, but I will: conference realignment is a game of thrones. At this point, we all know that if you're not ultimately in B1G/SEC, you're likely not going to be part of big time college football in the future. So, it's not Utah being as strong and profitable as possible (which should have been obvious to you from my post), but for the conference to be as strong and profitable as possible. Which is why I like that BY is building a killer basketball conference as well. I think the ACC gets mostly folded in to the B1G and SEC, which leaves B12 as the only viable third option. Can B12 stay relevant in CFB? It's hard to say. But if we add CU and the Arizona schools, we're not making the B12 a better football conference, and I think that matters.

If Utah can add to the profile of the conference, I think it makes sense to add them from that perspective.

There are other ways in which it makes no sense from BYU's and the B12's perspective, particularly with dollars and cents. On the balance, however, I think they're a strong add to the conference.

I definitely haven't gotten this impression. But I've got nothing on the governance front. We've seen OU and UCLA ditch other state universities without a peep from the legislatures.

I like the rivalry too. I prefer it to be similar to the BYU - USU rivalry. Or like the BYU - Utah rivalry of the past dozen years, but with the roles reversed.

This is the dumbest narrative ever. The B1G killed the P12 when they stole USC/UCLA. I can't believe national writers keep saying this with a straight face.

Yeah, it's so irritating to hear pundits and the masses spout that same narrative: so sad to see the PAC go away, the XII is poaching. They were all tsking and laughing when the XII lost Nebraska, aTm, Missouri, Colorado, and then Texas and Oklahoma. I guess it's the west coast mystique.

We all saw it with our own eyes: the B1G took USC and UCLA after shortly before that entering into an alliance with the PAC and ACC.
