  • Ugh. More smoke out of Arizona that ASU is coming too. This would be BY’s first big mistake.

      • After reading that article about Mike Young and Thompson making decision solely to hurt BYU, nothing would please me more for the Big 12 to leave Utah in the defunct PAC-whatever for the rest of their miserable existence..

Mike Young. What a petty POS..

Situations can change quickly but with current circumstances, the only school that the big 12 has a shot at that you listed there is Louisville. They could likely pick up schools like Syracuse, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Boston College, and maybe Georgia Tech, NC state, Duke.

The others are too appealing to the B1G and SEC

I like Georgia Tech, Louisville and Va Tech. Georgia is a decent sized state with loads of talent. It needs more than 1 P5...4...3 school.

But I'm not sold on the ACC falling apart any time soon. Maybe Florida State wants to buy out of the contract, but I'm not sure who else beyond that, maybe Clemson.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

UA/ASU/Utah have no other options. They have zero leverage.

Man, I love you guys, but I am glad you are not in charge of the B12 decision making.
Love you too, Dude! I agree that I am glad no one here is making the XII decisions because no one here has access to the information needed to make such decisions. We opine using snippets of info we gather from twitter or other places and then logic it our in our brains.

You asked "Why ASU?". My reasons:
              • Taking ASU along with UA drives the knife deeper into the PAC.
              • It will provide another school option for that late night TV slot on Saturday for "The XII After Dark."
              • It gives BYU another conference opponent in the region, cutting down on travel for all the teams.
              • It secures the Phoenix market.
              • It brings in another big/good name program with potential into the XII and pushes whatever inclination there might be to invite UCONN or SDSU further down the road.
              • It will avoid whatever political issues that might exist by splitting up UA and ASU.
              • It reestablishes ties to ASU with which BYU had a fairly long history in the old WAC. I attended several ASU games as a kid.
              • I like ASU, and my SIL is a big fan.
Look, it makes sense to invite ASU, certainly in the long term, so why not act now and get it done.

              Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Gross. Like literally, disgusting. The Ramblin' Wreck is just a wreck. Va Tech was good when they had Vick as QB. Louisville has some success in the last 20 years. Of the three, they're the only school that doesn't make me gag.

I think there's some real value to killing the P12. And this is the death blow.

                  But of course, UO/UW > UA/ASU/UU. That's a no-brainer.

Not if UO/UW don't get in to the B1G.

Losing Boulder put them on life support, but they're not dead yet.

The P12 flatlined when GK formally presented that DOA media deal. They are done. That is why Utah/UA/ASU are begging for a lifeline.

                          Wilner has capitulated
                          Canzano has pretty much capitulated
TJ Altimore (for crying out loud) has capitulated

Furthermore, UO/UW potentially not getting in the B1G IS EXACTLY WHY YOU DON'T BURN UP YOUR SLOTS with the likes of ASU and Utah.

Nobody has made a single credible argument why you don't wait on ASU and Utah. They have no leverage and no options.

But can you get Oregon and Washington to jump ship? I don't think you can.

So, absolutely, give OU and UW the opportunity to join. But the longer you give them, the more time the P12 has to figure a way out of this mess, whether by an ACC merger or otherwise. If they merge with ACC, I think you have legit competition for the third best conference, which is suboptimal.

                                Oh brother!

If you're going to take ASU eventually, then take ASU now. What is the XII waiting for? OU and UW? That seems like the only reason to wait, and those two schools just want a parking spot before bolting for the B1G. And the B1G is making its move.
