“Ready to sign.” Meaning, not signed yet.

    That seems important.

Exactly. And the reports are saying they will sign after approving the TV deal, which they may or may not have right now. If the offer isn't good enough some teams will still bail.

      • Twitter has been amazing today. Altimore and PigBus and other P12 folks celebrating like they are saved and it is a done deal.

              • I have not followed this saga very closely but why are fans excited about a verbal grant of rights agreement when there currently isn't a viable media option that wants said rights? Wake me up when they have an actual media deal.

Exactly. I’ve been saying this for months. Despite all the breathless anticipation of A CU BOARD MEETING! or A WASHINGTON HUSKIES FAN BLOG!! or SOMETHING ON TWITTER!!, we remain where we started:

                  1. all ten pac schools want to remain in the pac, unless the big10 or sec comes calling.
                  2. No G5 moves the needle even a little bit.
                  3. The pac12 media deal is not done.

As I told Lebowski when he so rudely chastised me, the most likely scenario remains that nothing happens: no teams leave, none join. Once the CW opens up their coffers and starts spending those gossip girl residuals, all will be right with the world. Until then no one knows anything. and the universities have no reason to move until we know that the CW money machine is closed.

This whole thread for months has been just a classic BYU circle jerk or cluster fuck. Pick your preferred simile.

They have the Pac 12 in hospice, but any team in the Pac 12 could walk into the Big 12 on demand, and none have. Because whatever the Pac 12's faults (mostly because of choices based on values), the Big 12 is a garbage confederation with a ludicrous footprint, spotty academics, awful venues, and stable as Yugoslavia.
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

I chastised you? I don’t remember. But I am sure you deserved it!

Yeah, multiple reports indicating the CW is the only real offer on the table right now.

You're an engineer, you don't know how deals happen. Here's what happens. Lawyers exchange term sheets for weeks or months while working on a definitive deal. Discrete terms of the term sheet are negotiated during this back and forth. The principals are kept in the loop. The presidents have a very good idea of about where the media deal is going to wind up as negotiations continue and details are hammered out. Nothing ever happens before it has to.

                          • Agreement on revenue sharing had to come first. Assuming it's unequal, the largest stakeholders need to be satisfied that the medial deal will get them what they want.

I have litigated many deals gone bad. The deal process is often the heart of the case, the facts I must master. Settlements often involve a new deal.
