Probably something to do with anti-Mormon bigotry.

          lol.

Man, these Bleacher Report articles are hilarious. I am literally wiping tears of laughter from this one:

It's fairly obvious some of the Brethren simply feel that the BYU faculty and student-body shouldn’t be out competing for federal research grants with Utah State. There are genuine fears that BYU being part of a league of such research institutions might further diminish Utah State's academic and athletic relevance to that of Weber State, Utah Valley and Southern Utah Universities.

          • hey, don't shoot the messenger!

If BYU were to join the Big 12 (seven AAU affiliated schools prior to the losses starting in 2010) or even more so the Pac-12 (next to only the Big-Ten in overall AAU affiliation), BYU becomes more exposed to the academic culture that promotes graduate research level work.

I wonder where they get these authors. It looks like just about anybody can be a BR "correspondent". Here is the profile page for the author of that article:

I'm a career federal government employee with USDA, and a 1985 graduate of BYU (B.S. Geography). I love BYU Sports and feel BYU is the Rodney Dangerfield in academics!

I think it sound more like a secret society bent on controlling the world!

Not to mention that the seven AAU universites in the Big 12 is now just three:
                          Iowa St., Kansas, and Texas

Here's a quick AUU breakdown by BCS conference:
                          Big Ten: 11
                          Pac-12: 8
ACC: 6 (counted Ptt in ACC)
                          SEC: 4
                          Big 12: 3
                          Big East: 1

So the SEC now has more AAU universities than the Big 12 and few would make the claim that joining the SEC "exposes a university to the academic culture that promotes graduate research level work".

hundreds of millions sounds more fun.

I've used Ray Quinney in the past; they are really good. I'm glad the church didn't leave this to the nice folks at the firm of Kirton and Bruce R. McConkie.
