  • This is what Bowlsby has also said over the last few days: They want a CCG starting in 2017. And we know they have the green light from the NCAA as of several months ago to hold a CCG with fewer than 12 teams. He has also said in the last several hours that he would prefer not to have a rematch in the CCG, which is not possible if they stay with 10 teams. And we know it is likely too late to invite any team from a current conference and still have them available for the 2017 season. And we know BYU as an indy IS available for 2017. And we know the data they hired the consulting firm to collect which as been leaked to the media, shows BYU to bring the most to the table financially.

If they can't agree on the 12th team because outside of BYU they all look about the same, theoretically they could invite only BYU for now and wait a little longer to pick the 12th team. BYU carries enough weight on their own to not dilute what they already have. They could still have two divisions and the chances of having a rematch in the CCG is at least less than 100%.

11 teams for now instead of 12? Either that, or find some unknown way to stay at 10 teams and claim it's a "slight" expansion. Even the B12 can't be that ridiculous can it?

Two divisions, one of 5 and one of 6? Seems like they would just announce BYU and then wait until they get someone else to actually add them and split the divisions.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

The problem is the timing. It's probably too late to poach the AAC and still have that team playing the B12 by 2017. If they go with 11 teams for 2017 they can't have a CCG unless they have two divisions because the recent rule change states that if a conference has fewer than 12 they can have a CCG but only if everyone plays everyone else OR if the championship game is played between two division winners. A 10 game conference schedule is impractical. Bowlsby said he doesn't want a rematch in the championship game if possible. So 11 teams somewhat lessons that, especially if they go with the 8 game conference schedule the SEC was doing with 12 teams and the B10 did for years with 11.

If they were to start right now.

But if they started months ago ...

Come on, this is the Big XII we're talking about, since when have they demonstrated the kind of foresight this would require?

              • So Houston is meeting with Larry Scott of the PAC 12. Very good move by Scott. Houston is a huge market and makes total sense. The Aggies move has worked out wonderfully and many feel they are the prominent team in Texas with its move to the SEC. Could Scott feel an overture to Houston might force Texas to make the move as well ? The PAC 14 could have two teams in Texas. Just a hunch. Probably too far fetched.

Yeah, pretty sure that is way, way too far fetched.

LOL at the PAC if the end up with Houston. They swung for the fences last time (UT and OU) and ended up getting a dribbling single. UH would be like hitting an infield fly. But of course, the PAC seems to like commuter schools with tepid fanbases so there's a chance!

Yet still a much better conference than the B12, yikes.

                      • Tomorrow will come and go with no announcement on expansion. Rinse and repeat next year.

The last round of expansion had all sorts of insiders and leaks. Nothing going on right now.
