  • How goes this quixotic pursuit?
When a true genius appears, you can know him by this sign: that all the dunces are in a confederacy against him.

Really well, thanks. The world will be better for this, that one school, scorned and covered with scars, chose to fight for the right without question or pause, and was willing to march into hell for that heavenly cause.

          • I heard the NFL is going to start a developmental league which will give all these kids who would rather make a few bucks right now than get a degree at a great university and a few years of fame a chance to do so. And assume that will be the end of college football, anyway.

A couple of thoughts. I think the NBA has developmental leagues and yet college basketball continues to exist. I wonder if the NFL will change the rule that a player has to be out of high school for three years before playing in the NFL. Until that happens, why wouldn't a player attend college for three years if he is not a sure lock for the NFL? And few players are at age 18. If I remember correctly, Barry Switzer once said that there was only one player he coached or evaluated that he thought was ready for the NFL directly after high school and he was Earl Campbell.

Edit: I think a NFL developmental league is a good idea. Gives another avenue to players who don't want to attend college or who cannot qualify. I think this would hurt JCs the most. I would think most high school players will realize that having a college degree is great back up should they not get drafted or once their NFL career is over (and NFL careers are short).

Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I agree. If there's one thing history has taught us it's that there's always market demand for more professional football leagues.

Frank Deford disagrees with you. The kids want walking around money, they don't want any degree; a degree is slave wages.

Frank Deford? Well then, it's settled.

I agree. If there's one thing history has taught us it's that old people like Frank Deford always know what the kids want.

Isn't he dead? If not...solid pick for 2017.

                              SU probably thinks you're serious.
