      Texas
      Texas Tech
      Baylor
      TCU

      Big 12 North:
      Kansas
      Kansas State
      Iowa State
      West Virginia
      Cincinnati
      Memphis

If they get really crazy and add 4, then I see Kansas and Kansas State moving to the Big 12 West (with all previously mentioned Big 12 South members), and the remaining Big 12 North becoming the Big 12 East, with UConn and UCF added.

In May 2010 it seemed ludicrous that Utah would be invited to the Pac 10. But the greatest upset in all recorded history happened and Utah really did get invited. It seems equally ludicrous that the Big 12 would expand without inviting BYU, but I fully expect that BYU won't be invited, because those other schools are research institutions of course. That is obviously the most important factor in any athletic conference membership.

      • The guaranteed rematch aspect of this is the dumbest thing. You accept the possibility of a rematch when you stage a championship game, but it is not preferred. To guarantee it happens every year is so dumb.

Not really. The news of the championship game is too ambiguously bad/good.

                • A championship game and Baylor is going to suck again... It is good to see things getting back to normal in the Big 12.

Baylor recruits still waiting for release from letters of intent

A day after having an in-home visit with Baylor's new acting head coach Jim Grobe and three assistants, Bears signee Parrish Cobb had hoped he'd get some good news about the school releasing him from his letter of intent, but that hasn't happened.

Collis Cobb, the cornerback's father, told FOX Sports on Thursday night that he called the Big 12 compliance office earlier in the day and left a voicemail. "I'm hoping we can get some guidance and get some good news from them, that they're in our corner, and hopefully they'll do the right thing."

Baylor has a 30-day deadline to respond to each recruit's request for a release and without that release, the recruit is not allowed to have any contact with another school. The other Baylor signees requesting their release are J.P. Urquidez, Jared Atkinson, Kameron Martin, Donovan Duvernay and Patrick Hudson, according to an ESPN report.

                  • Why would the Big 12 close the door on a Big 12 network, and announce there will be a CCG in 2017, but NOT close the door on expansion this week?

I don't understand your question. Why would they close the door on expansion? Haven't see you seen the report about increased revenue?

Wasn't there a report that showed some sort of potential for a joint ACC-Big 12 Network that would ? There are a lot of ways to make $ in college football without starting up a potential money pit like a conference network.(See Exhibit A: the MTN.)

Off topic, but the mtn became doomed as soon as they made a deal with Comcast. Otherwise it probably could have turned a modest profit. But people forget that for the MWC, the whole point of the mtn channel was not money as much as it was getting their teams on TV for the fans. CSTV wanted a conference channel because the lure of live sports was going to help them get CSTV on the air in western markets. And it did that well enough to get the channel bought out by CBS, making the originators of CSTV a lot of money.

The problem with turning to Comcast to run the mtn is that Comcast had no interest in distributing the mtn beyond its own subscribers. But they did a pretty good job for quite a while at lying/hiding that fact. It made a boatload of money from viewers in markets like Utah switching to them from satellite just so they could get their BYU games on TV. It was worth a lot more to Comcast as a channel no one outside their system could get than it ever would have been as a nationally available channel. The MWC was STUPID not to consult with folks who understood the cable business before getting into bed with a company that was widely known in the industry to be very unfriendly to sports fans and had played those tricks many many times in the past in other markets with pro teams' broadcast rights.

The one thing BYU asked for besides imploring them to allow it to become more widely available is for the right to rebroadcast home games, which really wasn't THAT much to ask. I mean, audiences for rebroadcasts are never going to be all that great. Comcast arrogantly overplayed its hand I think mostly just to be a bully, until BYU chose the nuclear option and left the conference, driving a stake into the heart of the channel by taking 90% of the audience away from it.

                          • I just spent the night in your future rival's turf, Morgantown. Beautiful place with a very college town feel. Also the drive out of town via I-64 can give Parley's canyon a run for its money in long steep pulls.

I foresee Ft Worth as more of a rival but I do like where your head is at.

The great part about Morgantown is you can sleep outside on a couch, and still be toasty warm.
