LOL at Craig Thompson still using BYU to generate publicity.Originally posted by SeattleUte View Post"It's devastating, because we lost to a team that's not even in the Pac-12. To lose to Utah State is horrible." - John White IV

Yes - because MWC teams are definitely in the mix for the national championship. And playing BYU would probably lower their strength of schedule compared to their other options. What are their other options again? (See - I don't recall the MWC teams being included in the ACC or SEC's lists of teams which count as an OOC big5 game.)Originally posted by kccougar View PostLOL at Craig Thompson still using BYU to generate publicity.

That article is funny. Craig Thompson is such a buffoon.Originally posted by Eddie View PostYes - because MWC teams are definitely in the mix for the national championship. It's all about the TV money these days. The MWC is swimming in so much cash from its TV deal that the schools don't care about things like home games and attracting fans to their stadiums.Originally posted by Eddie View PostYes - because MWC teams are definitely in the mix for the national championship. This morning one of the drive time radio guys was talking about this. His basic comment was "I don't get it? What is the downside to scheduling BYU for a MWC team? Don't they want to have their game on ESPN, ESPN2, or ESPNU? Have you been to the stadium during their games? They aren't selling those things out...unless BYU comes. And let's be honest. Nevada isn't contending for a spot in the 4 team playoff - it isn't like playing BYU is going to have a negative effect on their strength of schedule and keep them out."Originally posted by wapiti View PostIt's all about the TV money these days. They were trying to get Thompson on their program to respond, but had been unsuccessful.

If the MWC ever has a candidate for the playoffs it's going to be Boise. As BYU is on Boise's schedule every year for the next 8+ years, it seems unwise to disparage BYU as the Broncos will be needing to justify their schedule as always.

BYU budging on Sunday play? Not likely. Unless "budging" means we are willing to play late Saturday night games that will run past midnight.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View Postτὸν ἥλιον ἀνατέλλοντα πλείονες ἢ δυόμενον προσκυνοῦσιν

Yea, LOL on budging on Sunday play. Perhaps budging could mean if we did get to the championship game and it was on Sunday, we would be willing to forfeit and not raise a stink.Originally posted by All-American View PostBYU budging on Sunday play? Heck, I would be willing to sign something that said we are in the league but not eligible for the Championship game if scheduled that year on a Sunday. Couldn't be any worse than where we are now and we would be doing local fans a favor by having a good home schedule.

In fact, the only thing they will not budge on it seems, is their stance on advertising certain products like alcohol on BYUtv.

I'm sure beer companies are lining up to advertise on ByuTV.
Edit: I do know that they are pretty strict about what is advertised there. They thoroughly research anything that goes on the air, but still.

They will barely budge on Monday night basketball games, so there's no way they badge in Sunday play despite the fact 90% of membership watch sports on Sunday."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

If you budge one time on Sunday play then it's over, Sunday play is in. The NCAA's BYU-rule goes out the window.Originally posted by Moliere View PostThey will barely budge on Monday night basketball games, so there's no way they badge in Sunday play despite the fact 90% of membership watch sports on Sunday.
