We just don't win our games against great competition lately, and most of that conference is pretty good.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostThat and five bucks will get you a ham sandwich.
8th or worse every year? What is it with some BYU fans lately?
Right now, I think the Oklahoma's, TCU, Texas, KSU, and West Virginia have been better programs the last four or five years. Baylor's probably a wash. We're better than Kansas and Iowa State and Texas Tech lately.
I've wanted the Big 12 for nearly 20 years, and would be thrilled if we went.
I don't think we will though. Will donate kidney for B12 membership.

I heard the Big 12 actually did an internal analysis of BYU along these lines - either in 2010, or 2011. I forget which but I think it was the former.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI would say 4th to 8th with an average of 6th. 2-3 years BYU would get to a bowl and deserve the bowl trip once every 3rd year.
I do think that if BYU were in the Big-12 it would be able to recruit JCs much better to provide better players at the positions it is historically thin. It wouldn't be a huge upgrade as BYU is still BYU and its recruiting base is what it is, but I think BYU would be able to land a few more of the blue chip LDS kids they miss and get better non-LDS players at the defensive backfield and offensive skill positions.
In good years BYU would go 8-4 or perhaps 9-3 and be ranked about 15-20. In not so good years BYU would do well to go 6-6. I do think BYU would see about 2-4 below .500 years per decade.
Anyway, their expansion experts concluded that BYU would finish 5th on average. This was actually an important fact to consider, because it would put BYU in or around the Big 12's Holiday Bowl slot most years, which seemed like a good thing to everybody.
Like I said though, pretty sure this was before Missouri and A&M left and WVU and TCU joined. Not sure if those would change the averages significantly.
EDIT: The WCC actually did a very similar analysis, and concluded that BYU would finish in the top 3 in most sports in an average year, but that its odds of finishing first wouldn't be any better than the other top 3 teams. "Competitive, but not dominant" was the exact phrase the presidents and ADs were told, I think. Turned out that analysis was pretty accurate, I'd say.Last edited by shoganai; 01-22-2013, 10:39 AM.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/ncaa-foo...sion-influenceWithout saying it earlier this week, Bowlsby essentially said this: We're happy at 10 teams, but if the Big Ten moves to 16 by taking teams from the ACC, we're not standing still.
The most likely realignment scenario involves the Big Ten moving to 16 — sources tell Sporting News it's not if, but when — and the Big 12 setting its sights adding teams, perhaps Florida State and Clemson.

How could they grant this request when there is already a precedent set with another conference? Can't remember which conference it was, but it was only a couple of years ago. They requested the same thing and it was denied.Originally posted by HuskyFreeNorthwest View PostCFB Live discussion with ESPN Big 12 blogger that the conf is going to request permission to play a conference title game without expansion, which most expect to be granted.

Was the other conference going to poach teams from the ACC if they didn't get their 10-team conference title game?Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostHow could they grant this request when there is already a precedent set with another conference? I'm pretty confident that the B1G requested it prior to adding Nebraska, and was turned down. I also believe the P10 either formally requested it or inquired about it prior to expansion, and was told that there would not be an exemption. As a Ute fan, let me just say that if it is changed to 10 that I am enormously relieved that they waited until now, because who knows what would have happened if the P10 could have had a championship game. One thing's for sure, neither the U nor Colorado would have added enough to the pie to create a net benefit to the other teams without being able to bring the CCG with them.Originally posted by LiveCoug View PostHow could they grant this request when there is already a precedent set with another conference? Yeah.. it was the B1G as I recall. And not too long ago. Why say not to the B1G and yes to the BXII? Makes no sense.Originally posted by Scratch View PostI'm pretty confident that the B1G requested it prior to adding Nebraska, and was turned down. A Twitter conversation from tonight...

Rich Nielsen@RiseAndShoutOut
@TomHolmoe I'm confused about BYU's direction. Does BYU prefer Independence over #Big12 membership? Fans don't know BYU's ultimate goal.
Taylor J. Joyce@TayJoyce8
@RiseAndShoutOut @tomholmoe I believe what the fans want and what #BYU wants are two entirely different things.
Tom Holmoe@TomHolmoe
@TayJoyce8 @riseandshoutout What do YOU want Taylor?
Taylor J. Joyce@TayJoyce8
@TomHolmoe Didnt mean any disrespect. Just feel the fans want Big12 & dont feel the school wants Big12. Without demanding the farm. #BYU
Tom Holmoe@TomHolmoe
@TayJoyce8 "School" not demanding anything other than the obvious--Sunday play. I fully understand fans preference for BCS. Once again...
