How does one prove they can win with a full BCS conference schedule without ever having a BCS conference schedule?
One can't prove it. It's a question of how much risk one is willing to take. And I have no insight into how decision makers at BYU have evaluated this risk. But here's my concern:
The BYU decision makers are not like Sheriff Ed Tom Bell in No Country for Old Men who's not willing to push his chips forward and go out and meet something he doesn't understand. Because the Big 12 is a known football commodity and can be evaluated. My concern is that the evaluation has been conducted and they fear Anton Chigurh.

That hairpulling episode in primary was exceedingly traumatic. It still gives me shivers. I am proud of you for finding the strength to carry on.

What kind of crazy bastard pulls a kid's hair for 30 minutes nonstop while he is sobbing? I should have called the cops.
A crazy bastard does that, no further explanation needed. If anybody did that to one of my kids he would probably need to call an ambulance and I would need to call a lawyer.
I try to be the most docile, kind, benevolent, loving, and accepting person around. But you can't fuck with Poppa Bear's cubs and expect to avoid the claws.

Most people don't believe him, but I do!
I am fully aware of those threads, I am just joking with him a bit.
As a convert to the Church I can tell you that scouting outside of the Church is much different than inside. Its probably a lot different for every person depending on who the adults leading the program are.

You and I are culled from the same stock. If I grew up in LDS scouting, then I probably wouldn't hate it as much because "LDS scouting" is an oxy-moran.

serious question:
Could you and perhaps Tripp please start a thread on the differences between LDS and non-LDS scouting? Enquiring minds truly want to know. My kid HATES scouting most of the time and I am curious to learn how much of a difference there is between regular scouting and LDS scouting. I want him to have the best possible experience.
