  • Dennis Dodd was interviewed by one of the KSL reporters. When he was asked about BYU he basically said BYU is screwed. He thinks within 5 years they will have to get back in a conference so they will have something to play for. A conference championship as they won't be a factor with the big boys. He thinks the MWC would be good for us to get back in.

Only thing worse than that would be dropping to FCS or dropping sports altogether. Yucky yuck yuck.

      • All this shit has me very concerned for the future of college football. All of this leveraging and back room deal making over a few million bucks annually leaves a bad taste and makes me wonder how long the Frankenconferences will last.

Probably, but the more it becomes about money, the more apparent it will become that it is simply an inferior version of the NFL. Why bother with college ball? This from a fan of college football who barely follows the NFL.

              • Apparently four Big 12 schools are okay with expansion, four on the fence, one pushing hard for it and one is pushing hard to prevent it.

My guess is WVU is pushing for it and Texas is pushing hard to prevent it.

Four on the fence? Is that because Texas is like Russell Hanz, ready to go scorched earth if needs be?

Remember my alma mater is Alabama. I don't have to settle for Sugar Bowl championships to hang my hat on-if super conferences emerge in this scenario it sucks for everyone that loves the underdog and the current structure of college football. I will stick by that statement.

I think many will look back on all of this as a sad moment in college sports history. Money is now clearly the focus of college football. It's not the fans, the players, the teams, the pride, the rivalries, the tradition or any other notion. It's money that drives college football. With money so clearly defined as the top priority, it won't be long for the players to say "time for me to get mine" too. How can college football maintain that it does anything in the interest of the student athlete anymore? They want players who sell tickets and tv ads. Period.

All this reshuffling is killing the beauty of college football. Maybe that beauty has been dead for a long time. If so, this reshuffling is at least making it almost impossible to maintain it still exists.

The only people complaining about the death of college football are those that are on the outside right now. Those that are in the club are not complaining about it.

Sadly for many college football fans, they are about to learn they are also on the outside.

I am complaining about it and I am at least partly on the inside.

My brother said it came up at a C&G luncheon recently. Some PAC fans are concerned about the rush to 14-16. I don't think the PAC can stand pat at 12 teams if everyone else goes to 14-16.
                              Fitter. Happier. More Productive.

The PAC has the slimmest of pickings, however. Will PAC fans be happy with SDSU, CSU, UNLV and UNR (or whatever)?
