Apparently Patrick Kinehan mentioned on the radio yesterday the byu coaches are telling recruits they will be joining the big 12 soon.
*Please note I don't listen to Utah sports radio (or any sports radio for that matter) but am relaying information from a utefans.net poster. Hence I can neither confirm nor deny that is what Mr. Kinehan said on the radio. I was just passing along a rumor someone wrote on utefans. Since this is the groundswell thread I thought some here might find it relevant.

Umm, I do not necessarily disbelieve what Kinehan says but I have no problem disbelieving any attribution on 12angryutefans.net
Just yesterday some were insisting the only reason Hinds committed to BYU is that Bronco forced him to kneel in prayer.
I remember thinking how stupid it sounded when people were reporting the same type of rumor about Utah coaches and recruits. Now I'm feeling tingly all over. Please let this be true.

You know what happened the last time there were rumors that Utah coaches were telling recruits that they would be in the PAC-10 soon -- it actually happened.

My guess is that PK wasn't being serious (shocker) when (if) he talked about BYU coaches telling recruits that BYU is going to the Big 12. He is most likely making fun of BYU fans knowing that that was what Ute coaches said to Ute recruits (that they would soon be in the PAC 12) before the whole conference expansion last year.
I'll be honest. Provided we can work through scheduling issues, I'd rather have BYU independent than in the Big 12. I'll admit that I feel that way for completely selfish reasons. It appears that there would be more opportunities for me to see them play in person as an independent.

I'm a little bit worried about these new rumors that might have TAMU going to the SEC. I don't want BYU to end up in a Boise State situation. TAMU leaves, BYU gains entry and Texas goes independent.
Then all that remains is Oklahoma, a series BYU has dominated for the last 17 years.

Well, let's say that BYU goes to the Big 12 for a minute and TAMU bolts to the SEC. BYU's scheduling problem is solved and BYU could maybe even take TAMU's seat at the "big boys table". (Of course, Tech will be pissed.) If the Big 12 then falls apart then the worst case is BYU goes back to being independent.
You have to wonder who would be TAMU's dance partner if the go to the SEC. Hopefully it's not OU. If that is the case then the Big 12 would need to get ND or someone like that to survive. If only TAMU leaves then BYU would be a good replacement and be in a nice, 10 team BCS AQ conference that will most likely help with their recruiting in Texas.
I don't think Texas will go independent near term. Scheduling games as an independent seems pretty tough especially for the last half of the season. I suspect BYU will be still scheduling a good number of teams that won't help their strength of schedule in oct/nov as an independent for some time.

Yeah, a BSU situation with yearly BCS appearances.
Honestly, I don't really want entrance if it requires us being texas' b$&@h.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

If TAMU Leaves why would the Big 12 Add another team? If you don't have 12 teams 9 is second best because you get 8 conference games (equal home and away). Not to mention if you are Texas you get another home game you can broadcast on Longhorn tv (extra OCC game)
