Clearly he doesn't know what he's talking about but how many of the BOT know or care about the possible competitive ramifications of this stuff. I hope they do but who knows.

He has been accurate with all this stuff. If this happens I have a hard time believing that the Big-12 will add a team from a third time zone. That's the impression I get at least.
Where do you get that three time zones is a hang up? I haven't seen that mentioned before.

Adding WV to replace MO as the 10th team seems like a serious blow to us, but I don't see what the time zone thing is.

I'm separating the team from the admin. The future is not lost. It's time to recommit to BYU athletics. I was weak yesterday, but today I am strong!
Maybe a sign of the times?

Nothing specific other than coaches like to either play in the same time zone or go east one time zone (Mike Krzyzewski, TCU's Patterson, and some grumblings from coaches in the Big East about possible expansion from MST teams). Maybe I'm putting too much stock into what coaches want but it seems like the Big-12 potentially staying at 10 teams is a result of Stoops and Brown.

Louisville is in the Eastern time zone, too. So if 3 time zones are a problem we'd be in trouble without WV joining. I get the impression Oklahoma and Texas want to stay at 10 for an easier path the championships, while the rest of the schools (especially the north schools) want to go to 12.

I've never heard this before, and I've heard lots of rumors that indicate they are considering adding both BYU and eastern time zone schools.

              • All this reminds me, we really are in the middle of nowhere here in Utah. I guess Brigham was serious about getting away from people.

He's full of crap on that one. No way did BYU back off in early September and never return to talks with the Big 12. No way, no how.

You talking about the one where he says BYU backed off the Big 12 in September? I'm not optimistic about how this ends, but BYU backing off in early September is not news. That was the middle of Boren's wallflower moment. Everyone backed off the Big 12 because conventional wisdom was it was finished.

I deleted anybody tweeting about the big 12 from my twitter account. It was becoming too much. I needed to step back and take a breath.

                          • Big 12 not set on number of schools

Schulz said some within the Big 12 favor remaining a 10-team conference, while others want to continue expanding to 12 or even 14 teams.

“Should we stay at 10, go to 12 or go to 14?” Schulz said. “That will continue to be a discussion the subcommittee has. I don’t think there has been a decision made. Some institutions are comfortable staying where we are. There will be some that think we should be bigger. We’ll continue to watch the college landscape and be in a position to respond quickly if need be.”

                            • If the Big 12 remains mathematically challengers at 10, the league is dead. BYU admins will fuck over LDS athletes and fans in a heart beat over their idiotic ideals and religion. Sad, but true. Then in 20 years they'll wonder why no LDS athletes want to go to BYU.
