I went to Baylor, and there were fewer fans there than when I've gone to asu/u of a/usc. Maybe more than ucla. Definitely more than Stanford.
Anyway, I'll take an empty stadium in Palo Alto over a full one in Lubbock.
Actually, you won't!

I've wondered if a stint in a power 4 might be enough to make BYU a candidate when the time comes. Here's to hoping.
Any kind of "control" over college football will have to address NIL. Any move to regulate NIL to the benefit of the conferences and schools will result in antitrust litigation and the inevitable formation of a players union. At that point, teams will have to become entities distinct from the Universities they once represented. The result will be something similar to what we have already witnessed: USFL, XFL, etc.
Could those two conferences break from the NCAA and maintain the ties to schools and associated nostalgia that in large part drives attendance and viewership? Possibly. But then whatever they create will become the new NCAA. Good luck with that fools errand.

Labor board regional official clears way for Dartmouth hoops union
"A National Labor Relations Board regional official ruled on Monday that Dartmouth basketball players are employees of the school, clearing the way for an election that would create the first labor union for NCAA athletes ... Unionizing would allow the players to negotiate not only over salary but working conditions, including practice hours and travel."
Maybe, because of geography BYU and Utah both get in.
Nope. They both get left out of super conferences. This is bad for football in the state of Utah, but the writing was on the wall once usc-ucla jumped ship.

This makes me feel better that Applejack aka Mr. Wrong About Everything thinks we're gonna be left out.

What is the over under on the first intercollegiate sports labour action—a strike or lockout? I say three years. A team, similar to Florida State this past season, will get left out of the 12 team playoff next season. It will start the ball rolling. There is too much money up for grabs.
I said i thought this would happen within 5-10 years.
30-40 teams.
I outlined the teams I thought would get in and the schools that would transition to basketball only somewhere in this thread.
Tons of school will get jettisoned.

One argument I read often is that limiting the pool of teams who have access to NC dreams will cause fans of those left behind to lose interest and stop spending money which will devalue all of college football.

I'm choosing to mostly ignore your fatuity here and instead overwhelm you with so much data that you'll maybe, just maybe, realize that you have reams to read on this subject before you can contribute meaningfully to any conversation on this topic.

If the SEC and Big Ten break off, I won't be watching their games. I watch them now becaue they tie into the national league that BYU is part of. I don't watch the NFL and I won't watch a SEC/Big Ten league.
Now, I am in favor of a promotion/relegation system. Put 30 teams in a top tier conference/league a la the Premier League. Next 30 teams in Division 1 and so on. 3-5 teams are promoted and relegated each season. At least that way there is a clear path to get into the top tier. But, it will never happen.

What schools have realistic access to a NC in the current system? No G5 schools. No ACC schools unless your name was Clemson. No current B12 schools without wins over Texas and Oklahoma. This years playoff was a perfect encapsulation of who the haves and have nots are going forward.
I'm assuming it will be a 16 team playoff. 11 from a 40 team super league. 4 from the remaining P5. 1 G5 bid. Top 4 get a bye. I cant think right now, maybe a bracket doesnt absolutely fit that way. NFL does 14 with 2 byes, maybe you could mirror that.
