What do they think of a honky interloper living in their neighborhood?

This is a strawman, given that you make no reference to the fact that a lot of black folks in South Central think everything in white America is racist.

By my count, there are over 10 LDS African American players on BYU's team, or committed to play for BYU. You can add several more non-LDS African American players to that mix.

Damn, that is killing our recruiting there. When was the last time we landed a kid out of South Central?
          Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

I have never talked with my neighbors about religion or where I went to college. The black people I interact with where I have talked about these things are the parents of Little Robin's classmates. Most of the fellow parents seem to appreciate that we are part of the community.

You are arguing that a perception that BYU is racist isn't a significant problem for RECRUITING. You may be right. But the perception that BYU is racist, at any level, is a significant problem.

But what do I know? My sample is a small handful of black people in South Central.

                Per TBS:
BYU is not giving up on Manti yet:
Coach Doman is there right now meeting with him and we'll see if anything becomes of it. Regardless of what anyone believes happens on the trip bear in mind that Manti is a great kid with great potential. I still maintain that he was likely to sign with BYU prior to his trip and we'll see how this all plays out.

They should send Roderick's wife not Doman.

Give BYU some credit per TBS they convinced Manti to allow them an in home visit the Sunday after he gets home from SC. Looks like BYU will be the last team he talks to.

Someone needs to tell the Teo family how racist BYU/LDS church are.

The only thing BYU can do at that point is grovel, apologize, and look pathetic.

If he was drinking and they are still groveling, then why put up the HC charade? Just drop it already and go full-steam ahead for players that can help the team.

I honestly wonder what the script will be that Sunday evening?

"Let's all put this drinking thing behind us......"

You're basing your opinion on the assumption that Manti was, in fact, drinking at the party. I haven't followed this story closely at all - do we know for a fact that Manti was drinking? If so, I agree with you.

I prefaced with "if" for that reason. If he did not drink, then the visit may make some sense. Most accounts seem to have him pegged as a drunkard. Unlike the blue gogglers on CB, I tend to go with the odds....high profile high school kid, critical football recruiting trip, trip ends very badly and in shrouded controversy and secrecy, recruit tells BYU no thanks immediately after the trip, Bronco makes an official statement regarding the parting of ways........that is a lot of hullabaloo for the rumor to have no merit.

At any rate, once BYU has been spurned, the only card it has left to play is the religious guilt trip card. Doesn't seem like a very good hand to be holding going into the river.

Funny I thought Georgetown was a Black school because of their basketball program till I was about 16 or 17. There was never even a token white guy on G-towns basketball team until Thompson Sr. retired. It's funny how perceptions are.
