Depends on what site you want to believe. On scout.com BYU is #20 with an average of 3.04 stars per recruit, while Utah is #65 with a 2.64 star average.
BYU is #24 at espn (I only see up to #25, sorry Utah). On rivals BYU is #37 and Utah #42.

Sorry if this has already been posted but I am told that Utah, because of its success, is now competing for recruits at a higher level and that is why so many are decommitting. (BYU may in the same boat, in a different way.) I am told (by people who seem to be in a position to know) that decommits are just part of the recruiting game at those levels, and that Utah really is not experiencing anything out of the ordinary.

Then again, that might just be spin. BYU wins February again!

In which case, we are doomed!!! (Sorry, junkie ans SU. Well, not really.)

The rank of your recruiting class and the schools that you are losing recruits too completely debunks this theory. If you were losing kids to Florida, USC, Texas etc it would be different. You are losing kids to schools like UTEP, TCU, Houston, and Mississippi State.

OK, so how do you explain this? Some deep flaw in the Utah program? Recruits finally seeing what you see, which is that there is no real program at Utah? What dire future does this portend for the Utes? Tell us, we are dying to know.

Aren't most of those kids out of Texas? Maybe they want to play closer to home and found offers that allowed that. Maybe that's the real reason.
            Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Maybe. I guess the only real test is how they play when they finally get on the field. I can think of a number of exciting Ute recruits that never got onto the playing field, or were busts when they did, or got into some kind of trouble. I think BYU has had those too. Then there are guys like Ben Olsen. Getting all excited about which 18 year-old kid has agreed to accept a scholarship is probably fun, but not very useful in predicting anything.

Every school in the country goes through this recruiting roller coaster every year. In the end, Utah will claim to get who they wanted, BYU will claim the same. Both fan bases will be high on helium and proclaim it the best class in years. There'll be more team unity and chemistry than ever before, and all 119 D1A will be poised to make great strides.

......then September comes, and reality hits.

he was the most hyped recruit of the 08 class, and there was much ado about his scholarship offer from lsu. once their scouts saw him play in person, they pulled it. he just hasn't been what he was advertised as coming out of high school.

Well, I thought he had a pretty good season last year and we expect him to contribute quite a bit in the future. How do you know that's what happened with LSU?

As a redshirt freshman and 3rd on the depth chart going into the season, he did a good job. His first carry of the season was a 46 yard run that he broke his arm on (or fractured his wrist or something). Once Asiata went down, Wide III, Shak, Shaky and others all carried the load. Shak played really well down the stretch. To call him a bust at this point would be a little bit premature.
