Based on results, that seems like a solid, albeit, unsettling assessment.

What kind of an indicator is getting shut out by UNLV?Originally posted by SloanHater View PostWow. I guess when you compare National Championships, there really isn't a difference between the 3.
And yes, I would say how a team performs in its first game, and the adjustments made it that game, are a great indicator of a coach's ability.

Kyle doesn't have losses in the Hawaii and Poinsettia Bowls sandwiched between his BCS wins."In conclusion, let me give a shout-out to dirty sex. What a great thing it is" - Northwestcoug

I think Peterson is a great coach, but I think that Patterson will learn from this. IIRC, TCU and BSU both return a great deal of players. I don't know what eithers schedule is, but I can see both going undefeated again next year. It could be epic.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostI think Petersen established that he is currently the best mid-major head coach and possibly the best coach in the nation.
Why aren't tradition and talent rich schools like Florida St., Nebraska, or Michigan beating down the door to get this guy?
BSU has gone undefeated in the regular season how many times since 2004? 04, 06, 08 and 09 I think. 4 out of 6 regular season undefeated, that is pretty damn impressive. Peterson has gone undefeated in the regular season 75% of the time. That is flat out amazing and demonstrates that the other 3 should probably not even be in the discussion.
I do think that Patterson is catching up to BSU's consistency and doing such in a more difficult conference. Bronco does about as well as his resources allow and Kyle is a one hit wonder that should not be mentioned in this company.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Or do something crazy like consider all the games played!Originally posted by SloanHater View PostI guess when you put a heavier weight on regular season performance then Bronco moves up to 2nd place behind Chris.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

Boise State returns every starter save 1. Their OOC is stronger with a road trip to 'neutral' Fed Ex Field to play VA Tech and they get Oregon State at home. They could play for a NC next year.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think Peterson is a great coach, but I think that Patterson will learn from this. So when talking about non-BCS coaches that have been to and won a BCS game, I should leave Kyle out.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think Peterson is a great coach, but I think that Patterson will learn from this. I put an equal weight on all 13 games each season, but conference standings is one quick way to do as much of an apples-to-apples comparison as possible with a sample size that actually has some value.Originally posted by SloanHater View PostI guess when you put a heavier weight on regular season performance then Bronco moves up to 2nd place behind Chris.

Looking more into Hawkins' failures at CU thus far makes me wonder how well these other coaches would do at BCS schools. Let's assume for a second that they would be going to the mid to lower tier schools. How well would they do? I think for some (and this may be the case for the four coaches in question) they may be a better fit for a top tier non-bcs school because you get guys with a chip on their shoulder and you can get them up for one or two BCS teams a year and then a bowl game at the end of the year.
I would be interested to see how Peterson or Patterson would do at UVA or Washington St, or some lower tier BCS school with no real advantages over a TCU or a BSU. I understand, of course, that being in a BCS league gives you more $$$ year in and year out, but then again, places like BSU or BYU that have distinguished alumni or fans like J.R. Simplot or John Haddow that are willing to pony up some serious $$$ for the football team."They're good. They've always been good" - David Shaw.
Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.
