  • Chris > Kyle > Gary > Bronco

I think Petersen established that he is currently the best mid-major head coach and possibly the best coach in the nation.

Why aren't tradition and talent rich schools like Florida St., Nebraska, or Michigan beating down the door to get this guy?

Because he's comfortable at Boise St, maybe? I don't know.

Maybe they've seen what's happened at Colorado.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Doesn't only one of those coaches have a better record than Bronco over the last four years? And that coach plays in a weaker conference.

I'm sure Hawkins figures into the minds of some, but Petersen always seems to have his team prepared and makes unbelievable in-game adjustments.

Boylenover must be right. It seems he's agreed to a new five year deal with details to be released later.

I guess you CAN'T take the coach out of the trailer park. or is the other way around?

I think SloanHater's mere existence proves he is a poor judge of coaching.

Or perhaps I was ranking coaches on their appearances/victories in BCS games.

[Edit] By the way Indy, How are the Jazz doing this season?

This won't be surprising, coming from a BYU fan but I think bowl victories are a screwy way to evaluate a coach. I know they're the most visible, but I don't think they're a great reflection of coaching ability. One of the crappy parts of the bowl system is the separation between the regular season. You don't see teams when they're in their groove, firing on all cylinders, <insert cliched metaphor>. You see sloppy play from teams that haven't played a game in over a month. During the season, we worry about teams being rusty after a bye week.

If the bowl season were two weeks after the regular season, I'd respect the results a lot more.

I agree that bowl games are often sloppy and don't represent a team's best play, BUT.. that is the reason they are the best reflection of a coach's ability.

There is a reason that the Jim Tressels and Bob Stoopses of the world lose to the Urban Meyers and Pete Carrolls.

I don't see a huge (any?) difference between Pete Carroll and Jim Tressel or Bob Stoops. Urban Meyer's in his own league, but not because of his bowl record.

Do we judge coaches based on their first game of each year? Really, those should be the most accurate assessment of coaching ability, right?

By the way, who do the Jazz have on their roster? Where else would a screwball like Okur even sniff the NBA All-Star roster? Most seasons, the Jazz overachieve because Sloan makes the whole worth more than the sum of the individual parts.

P.S. I hate the Jazz, but I find the JazzFan hatred of Sloan absolutely hilarious.

Agree on the rankings. All four are pretty good if not great.

Wow. I guess when you compare National Championships, there really isn't a difference between the 3.

And yes, I would say how a team performs in its first game, and the adjustments made it that game, are a great indicator of a coach's ability.
