Also if we were in the B12 North we would win that division as regularly as we are winning the MWC this decade. So then you are one big win away from the NC game, not just a BCS game.
Which we don't. BYU has not fielded a team that could beat any of the Big 12 champions IMO. Which means 0 BSC bowls unless we were undefeated except that championship game and get an at-large bid. Also, those championship games would be road games for us every year.

And it's not like CU, Iowa State, Kansas, KSU, are all that inspiring to play either.

They are road games for everyone.

You're right, but Texas playing in Arlington is a bit different than BYU in Arlington.

If we were playing CU, Kansas or Kansas State now it would be the highlight game on our schedule. So I am missing how playing all of them, plus Nebraska every year wouldn't be anything short of 10,000 times better than the MWC.

I really like Normon. The first college football game I ever saw was in Normon.

I think that's only because people are being deluded by BCS talk. These are BCS teams. Poppycock. These programs all suck. Nebraska every year is a decent game. But I think TCU and Utah are both better games than Nebraska.

Utah would still be on the schedule. Nebraska would always be on the schedule. Three Big 12 South teams would be on the schedule. Every other year would we would have Oklahoma and/or Texas on the schedule. aTm, Okie State and Texas Tech would also be interesting. A Big 12 schedule would be A LOT more interesting than a MWC schedule. To me, Colorado, Missouri and Kansas are all more intriguing than UNLV, SDSU, CSU, AFA, Wyoming, UNM.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

I get that and I agree. But BYU wins a conference championship in the Big 12 maybe once every 10 years, maybe more.

I think remaining a/the dominant program in the MWC will do more for BYU's prestige than simply being a part of a conference with prestige. You do that consistently and win BCS bowl games you start the year ranked higher and higher and then you have a legitimate chance at an NC. Running the table in the Big 12 and beating OU or UT in the Championship game will get you there too. I just think the odds of that are poor when compared to what they can accomplish in the MWC.

I factored in that with BCS money our crappy teams should improve immensely.

Another valid point. At least one would hope that teams like CSU, UNLV, and SDSU could improve with that kind of money flowing in yearly.

I guess I have missed us being dominant in the MWC since its formation. We are one of the better teams, but not dominant. Utah and TCU have run through the league in their championship years as much as BYU has. I think BYU could enjoy the same success in the B12 north, with a New Years Day game as consolation instead of Vegas. In fact BYU would have to finish probably 7th or worse in the Big 12 to go to a bowl as bad as Vegas.

But outside of the BCS bowls does anyone care anymore? Is playing on New Years Day that big of a deal now?

4 MWC championships in 10 years is pretty good. Same as Utah. TCU has 2. In that same 10 year span if BYU were in the Big 12 they don't get a single conference championship. Sure we'd compete in the North and probably play in a couple conference championships but we still don't sniff the BCS. And that probably doesn't change in the future either. It would take a special team to run through the Big 12.

One thing about jumping too is we no longer have California as a market. No bowl games outside of the Holiday Bowl that ties the Big 12 and Pac 10. I think that is a huge loss. Sure we might get a bigger footprint in Texas now, but I don't know if that is worth losing California over.
