The thing that is sad for TCU is that even though this is 2009, this is even worse than Utah v. Pittsburg. I don't care how how good Boise is and I don't care if TCU beats them 100-0. Their BCS win will never be viewed as the achievement Utah's win last year was and that is truly not fair because this TCU team may well be better than last year's Utah team. Now we will never know, of course, because they won't get to play Florida or someone at that level as Utah did last year.

That is unfair for them and the conference and a real shame. They really and truly deserve a better opponent, particularly since they were a heart beat and a Nebraska choke job away for playing for it all. Hopefully this all gets rectified in two years.

My bad. I hadn't intended to post this here. I meant to start a new thread. Sorry. Please accept my most humble and sincere apologies.

              I called it.

The only disservice the Fiesta Bowl did was pass up an even more compelling matchup: No. 3 Cincinnati vs. No. 4 TCU. Junker, who made a big deal in his comments about the historical significance of pitting two undefeated teams, said his game passed on the Bearcats for geographical reasons.

"Boise is almost 1,000 miles closer to our game [than Cincinnati], and while we didn't consult the Sugar Bowl, but just accessing MapQuest, Cincinnati is about 1,000 miles closer to New Orleans."
So Cincinnati to Tempe doesn't make sense, but Columbus to Tempe does.

To actual schools they get twice as much. Would the bowls lose revenue? Obviously if they are playing home playoff games. Shouldn't the schools be concerned about their revenue instead of making sure bowl games make money?

good questions. not sure of the answer.

if I were sitting on a board and someone pitched this idea, one of my first questions would be this: what happens if the "Final 4" consists of 4 SEC teams? Does this mean mean that the SEC conference keeps its associated revenue from the first few rounds, then 100% of the revenue from the final 2 games? Why is this better than the current setup which basically precludes conferences with championship games to send both teams to the championship round (thereby forcing a split of the finals revenue with a second conference)? Under the current BCS regime, the BCS conferences are guaranteed a slice of the big bowl money. Under a playoff scenario, these schools relinquish that automatic right. Why should we do this as a board? What is the financial case to be made?

Also, under a bowl regime, some conferences get to send 5 or 6 teams to bowls. In a playoff regime, the same conferences get to send maybe one or two teams, max. why is this better for my conference and for schools, recruiting, exposure, etc?

Why not have the top 12 teams play in a playoff with the top 4 getting byes the first week (determine this however you like). Then the other bowl games play as they normally do except for the elimination of 1 or two bowl games. Then split the money evenly between all 117 teams and anytime someone gets a home playoff game they keep 70% of the gate or somethign like that.

If I had my way there would be 13 weeks (start last weekend of August) to play 12 games. Thanksgiving would be round 1 of the playoff which the top 4 ranked teams would have a bye while 5-12 would play seeded playoff games. Outside of the top 4 the 5-12 games are played at home of the higher seed.

                    Sec
                    Big12
                    Big 10
                    Pac-10
                    ACC
                    Big East
                    MWC

get at least one playoff contender contingent on that conference placing a team in the top 15.

Week Two would be home games for the top 4 and they select who they get to play from the winners in week 1. The losers in Week1 go to bowl games.
The losers in week 2 go to bowl games.

Week three is played around Christmas in geographical locations close to the highest seed. For example, The NCAA reserves several domes in the north (Detroit, Indy, Carrier Dome & Rogers Centre) And if there is a team in the remaining 4 with a higher seed they will play in the closest arena. The south does the same southwest and the west.

The national championship is then played in one of the current BCS games locations round robin

Florida is -10.5 vs. Cincinnatti. Was the Utah-Alabama spread that big?

It started out at 11 and moved to 9 when their lineman was suspended.

Alabama showed a lot better in defeat last year than Florida did this year in the SEC Championship game.
