It's kind of stupid, but that's OK. If no one was willing to be stupid at football games, they'd be a lot more boring.
but BYU fans still make fun of the pirate at Utah games.

At least these guys are relating to BYU footabll. The Independence makes sense, sort of lame but makes sense.
The pirate ship on the other hand I am not sure what the correlation is.

Also, why hasn't any group of undergrads started dressing like Blue Man Group? Seems like an obvious one but I don't think it has been done, at least not on a regular basis. They could really milk that at all the byu sporting events.

Based on the design of the Y, I'd guess there are multiple iterations.

Other than this pic I have not seen many others. The one I know (Who is on the top of this page) shows up everywhere. He was on Sportsbeat last night, he is in the media guide. His face is popping up everywhere. He calls himself the blueman.

Also he has front row seats in the south endzone, he brings a huge Y flag that his wife made to every game and hangs it over the railing. he is right behind the goal posts which is why I think he gets so much TV time.

I don't know who is more geeky. Those 30+ year old nerds for painting their faces like that or me making a comparison to Star Wars.

If I had compared them to Star Trek, I'd definitely say me.
