No one here is claiming 2003 Utah was the greatest MWC team ever.

Nor should anyone claim the 2003 Utah team to be the 3rd best ever either.

Ty Detmer played 14 seasons in the NFL actually on an NFL roster.

He has not been resigned by anyone since then and he has a grand total of 5 receptions for 63 yards in his "5" year "career". Like I said if you want to count him as an NFL player go ahead but I would be embarrassed to do so.

Go ahead and give us your definition as to what a player must do in order to qualify as "having played in the NFL."

Another factor was the newness of the spread option offense. How effective would that team be now that teams have seen it for 5 years? I don't know. It still seems mighty effective if you have the speed (see: TCU '09).

I agree with this. That 2004 Utah team was a very good team but the success was very similar to the BYU success of the early 1980's. I think that this current TCU squad has much more natural talent, in fact I think the 2008 Utah team had more natural talent than the 2004 Ute team. But nobody was familiar enough with the spread option offense to properly defend the 2004 Utes.

While we don't really know it is my opinion that one must give some serious deference to that Ute 2004 margin of victory fact. While we all believe this TCU team could beat anyone because of how they are playing now and because it makes us all feel better after the manner in which they violated our teams, they still have had a couple of squeakers over AF and Clemson. Utah 2004 never had a squeaker against anyone. I think TCU has played a better schedule this year than Utah did in 2004 but Utah never even remotely struggled with anyone. That cannot be said about TCU.
