Where are the other three eligible receivers?
They were covered as well. When you can get pressure with 4 guys, you can put double coverage on all the receivers. TCU drops 7 guys every play. That means at least 2 and most of the time 3 guys can be covered by 2 guys.

BYU drop 8 and can't cover anyone. I don't get it.

Obviously they were covered. My point was that they were on the opposite side of the field, so they were out of the play with a QB scrambling for his life to the right. Hall can be deadly when he gets out of the pocket because even though he's got 5 receivers against 6 or 7 defenders, it's tough to guard even 7 on 5 for 7-8 seconds. My point was our receivers weren't helping him out at all on that play.

This team is not very well coached. This really was evident last night. Maybe they don't work the "Scramble Drill" in practice. I thought everyone did.

That was not a fun game to watch.. They got embarrassed once again by TCU..

Dumb mistakes and it seemed like every tiem BYU was starting to build momentum (At least when they still had a cahnce to get back into the Game), they would get called for some boneheaded foul.. Killed them every time..

They just showed this play on the coaches show from 3 different angles. There is no doubt in my mind that he should have caught that pass.

It would have been a nice grab, but one that I think Pitta makes 70% of the time. Kariya being a fullback and all, it's more understandable, I guess. He can split the blame with Hall.

A sad state of affairs for the BYU football program. 3 of my co-workers who are avid Ute fans, as I passed them said, wow, tough loss, TCU is good. In the old days they would have laughed, giggled and rubbed it in.

I haven't watched it on TV, but that ball made such a bizarre THWACK sound in the stadium that I figured it hit his thigh pad or something. I thought it was huge turning point in the game. We score on that drive and it's a one-touchdown game.

That's just one of a few really bad breaks we had. TCU outplayed us, but we also were the victims of some bad breaks.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

The Mtn obtained the rebroadcast rights and it's on right now. So for all the DTV'ers who missed out, it's part of the rotation now.

Hansen and Willing are the two worst OL I have seen in a long time at BYU. I wouldn't say he played scared, but if he was, could you blame the guy? Alletto doesn't even lay a finger on Hughes and he gets popped in the mouth. Those guys were pinning their ears back and coming all game. We didn't do anything to counter that. We had success running early. Why not let Unga punish them? Set up the play action. Instead we allow TCU to bring it on known passing downs. There should have been more quick hits. Short crossing patterns, slants, Tonga or Unga in the seam or maybe some screens when they aren't in max protect (which should have been every passing play the way our OL blocked). When we did those things there was success moving the ball.
I can't blame Hall for playing scared, but I just don't think that's what a third-year starter does. It's not like he doesn't have any weapons to use.

I'm also not really talking about his tendency to leave the pocket so quickly. His "fear" was apparent from the first snap. He'd go up to take the snap and take about 20 seconds trying to read the defense, almost like he was thinking too much. It seems like we do better when we get into a rhythm, keeping the defense on their heels, than trying to react to what they're doing.

Really, though, you're right about the O-line, but I think TCU's D-line deserves huge credit. They routinely pressured Hall with 4 guys and didn't miss any tackles. I can't think of a single time when anyone got a hand on Hall and he escaped.

You're lucky. I've been getting it with both barrels.

I'm surprised nobody here has said anything about BYU's receivers campaigning for PI calls. Chambers had one down the sideline where he had two hands on the ball, botched the catch, and then tried to get the PI call when the CB hadn't done anything wrong.

Catch the damn ball and don't worry about PI.

Ashworth had another one in the endzone that was defended very well. It would have been an amazing catch had he come up with it, but he was still just looking for the flag.

Also, BYU needs to get someone else to catch punts. On the one where TCU interfered with the catch, he turned away from the ball when he thought he was going to be hit (not when he actually did get hit). And of course he muffed the one at the end of the half and almost gave TCU another quick TD.

EDIT: The last paragraph is obviously referring to Chambers. I don't feel like I'm being too hard on the kid, unless he has been coached to go for the penalty instead of the ball whenever it's close. For the record, he's a pretty good kick returner by BYU's standards.

Chambers has a good average, but without that 98 yarder what is it? I bet it's average at best. I was happy he got that big one when he did, but the kid runs like he's in a waist-deep swamp. He's got no moves, is not quick. His straight speed seems decent, but if you can't make somebody miss you shouldn't be returning kicks.
