It's not a perfect comparison, but for anyone who understands football and doesn't really get soccer, I think it accurately illustrates the ridiculousness of the way VAR is being used.Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss
There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

I, for one, am looking forward to the Falkland/Malvinas Semifinal."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Yellow was absolutely appropriate...its was a clear dive. I think reversing yellow cards when there is a dive and assigning it to the diver is one of the best things VAR does. Having it result in a red card in a world cup quarterfinal because it is the second yellow is a harsh consequence but you know what?...maybe dont take a clear dive when you are already on a yellow in such an important match. I have zero problem with it because these kinds of sever consequences is what will drive diving out of the game.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhat do you guys think about that red card on Switzerland?

You served in Argentina during the 98 cup if I remember correctly. Is that right? I was up north finishing up during that tournament. That round of 16 game against England was nuts...even knowing the Falklands history it was amazing to me the amount of animosity every single person had towards England. And it spilled over onto the white missionaries they happened to see on and around gameday.Originally posted by Pelado View PostI, for one, am looking forward to the Falkland/Malvinas Semifinal.
This semifinal will be unreal.

Sorry, no. I finished up in 1997. I was there for the 1996 Olympics, though, when Argentina lost in the gold medal game to Nigeria. Tough day to try to proselyte. During the game, nobody would talk to us - we ended up just finding somewhere to sit and read our scriptures. After the game, nobody would talk to us - too depressed.Originally posted by Omaha 680 View Post

thankfully I had a bunch of meetings and missed most of it. Spain is too good. I’m not sure even Argentina can beat them."Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

For the round of 16 game in 98 we were ordered to stay in the entire day. We had to venture out to buy some groceries and several groups of people gave me mild harassment, calling me English. The boredom was excruciating staying in all day. You could of course hear the entire city erupt with every Argentina goal. When two hours from kickoff passed and there was no celebration, my Argentine companion was despondent. Then we heard cheers in rapid succession and we knew they were taking penalties to decide the game. My companion was losing his mind.Originally posted by Pelado View Post

Maybe I am unconventional but England up 1-0 should not have been content to switch to sitting back and just playing defense against a talented team. It's only a matter of time they score on you if they have the ball so much. England was good enough to continue to maintain some possession, and the other team can't score without the ball. Same reason the Netherlands got knocked out. In that case it was even dumber given that it's so drastically outside the way they normally play.

I wonder if the England coach gets sacked. He made the worse decision I have seen. He parked the bus for 40 minutes. England only had possession 12 minutes or less in the second half. The odds of Argentina scoring grew immensely when they went that route.
It never wins. It is a terrible decision. Offense is the best Defense.
